Job Purpose / Summary
The SHE Technician provides day-to-day support to the SHE Coordinator and SHE Manager in delivering essential safety, health and environmental activities across the site.
This role focuses on routine inspections, EHS audits, data collection, SHE administration, maintaining compliance records, and promoting safe behaviours.
Key Accountabilities
Supporting SHE Compliance & Administration
* Maintain and update SHE documentation, logs and records (e.g., audit actions, inspection checklists, EHS CAL, PPE logs).
* Assist in preparing paperwork and evidence for internal/external audits and regulatory visits.
* Complete inspections of shadow boards, first aid supplies, fire equipment, racking damages, fire doors and PPE.
* Support management of contractor documentation (inductions, permits, training/competency evidence).
Routine Checks, Inspections & Monitoring
* Carry out scheduled workplace inspections, including:
o Safety boards
o First aid audits
o Fire extinguishers/fire doors – Fire Safety Audits
o PPE stations
o Monthly asbestos audits
o Ladder audits
* Raise issues found and escalates urgent matters to the SHE Coordinator.
Incident & Near-Miss Support
* Assist with data gathering for accidents, near misses, hazards, incidents.
* Help ensure reports are logged accurately and follow-up actions are recorded.
Risk Assessment & Safe Systems Support
* Support the review process, ensure the Risk Assessment schedule is up to date and assist with any key actions.
* Help ensure all documentation, dept files, CAL logs, audit files & logs are up to date and accessible.
Training & Awareness Support
* Assist with organising and recording training sessions (induction, manual handling, COSHH, toolbox talks).
* Assist with EHS initiatives, safety campaigns, procedures, SSoW etc.
Environmental Support
* Assist with waste monitoring, segregation monitoring and general environmental compliance tasks.
* Support the maintenance of ISO14001 documentation (e.g., aspects & impacts register updates, audit preparation).
* Record key environmental data (e.g., waste volumes, utilities/emissions data).
* Through data analysis, audit results, incidents and complaints, assist with identifying environmental trends & basic Root Cause Analysis.
Data Collection & Reporting
* Collect routine SHE performance data (accidents, audits, inspections, near misses).
* Maintain simple spreadsheets or dashboards and highlight trends or concerns.
General Support
* Participate in monthly SHE meetings and help capture actions.
* Complete weekly fire alarm testing where required and other fire safety aspects such as auditing and inspections.
* Issuing and recording of PPE, stock takes and ordering within agreed budget threshold.
* Undertake any other SHE-related tasks as reasonably requested by the SHE Coordinator or SHE Manager.
* Provide an active daily EHS presence around the site, engaging with employees around day‑to‑day EHS matters.
* The job holder is required to do all tasks considered relevant by their line manager.
* Responsible for Food Safety, Quality and Legality.

Job Functional Knowledge
Essential
* Good understanding of basic H&S principles (IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent).
* Strong organisation, attention to detail and record keeping skills.
* Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment.
* Good communication skills and the ability to engage with colleagues at all levels.
Desirable (Development Opportunities)
* Working towards NEBOSH H&S General Certificate.
* Working towards NEBOSH Env General Certificate.
* Previous experience in food manufacturing or awareness of food safety requirements.
* Familiarity with ISO14001.
* Experience conducting inspections, audits or using checklists.
