Assistant Management Accountant
Location: Nottingham
Salary: upto £35k per annum (DOE)
Position Overview:
The Assistant Management Accountant will support the Finance team in delivering timely and accurate financial reporting and analysis. Reporting to the Head of Finance, this role will contribute to budgeting, forecasting, cost analysis, and maintaining strong financial controls. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in accounting principles and a proactive approach to learning and development.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting:
* Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts.
* Support month-end close activities including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
* Maintain and update financial records within the ERP system.
* Prepare supporting documentation for financial reports.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
* Contribute to the preparation of annual budgets and rolling forecasts.
* Track actual vs budget performance and prepare variance analysis with commentary.
* Assist in gathering financial data from departments for planning purposes.
Cost & Financial Analysis:
* Help track costs and perform basic variance analysis.
* Support margin and profitability analysis across product and service lines.
* Assist in the monitoring of departmental overheads and cost drivers.
Financial Controls and Compliance:
* Support internal control processes and ensure adherence to accounting policies.
* Assist with audit preparation, including compiling required schedules and data.
* Help ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
Business Support:
* Engage with stakeholders across departments to gather and share financial insights.
* Attend finance meetings and support the Head Of Finance in delivering key financial insight.
* Take part in finance projects and ad-hoc analysis as required.
Qualifications and Skills:
* Actively studying AAT, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent professional qualification.
* 1–2 years' experience in an accounting or finance-related role.
* Strong understanding of basic accounting principles.
* Proficient in Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP systems preferred.
* Analytical and detail-focused, with a desire to develop in a finance career.
* Strong organisational and communication skills.
* Self-motivated and able to work collaboratively within a team.
