NHS Grampian invites enthusiastic applicants for a Consultant in General Paediatrics with an interest in Diabetes, based within Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital.
This job is open to Paediatricians with substantial knowledge and experience of working in Paediatric Diabetes at secondary or tertiary level. The current post also includes a contribution to the General Paediatric rota in addition to being Consultant of the week on pro rota basis. However, there is flexibility within the system for those candidates who may bring a particular strength to the service and those who want to work part-time.
The Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital has a total of 93 beds, providing specialist inpatient and outpatient care in Medical Paediatrics and its sub-specialities, General Paediatric Surgery, Orthopaedic and Plastic Surgery, ENT, Dermatology, Orthodontics, Ophthalmology, Clinical Genetics and Child and Family Psychiatry. The Department of Community Child Health and a purpose built Child Protection suite are located within the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital. Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital has its own Accident and Emergency Department under direct Consultant supervision. There are approximately 8000 attendances annually of which two thirds are acute admissions. The Paediatric service is delivered by a total of 22 medical & surgical Consultants, 10 Associate Specialists, 2 Speciality Doctors and 15 RCPCH trainees.

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview.
Alternatively, applicants should possess a CESR / CESR (CP).
Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made. Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR / CESR (CP) and entry onto the Specialist Register can be made
