By accelerating electrons to near light-speed, Diamond generates brilliant beams of light from infra-red to X-rays which are used for academic and industry research and development across a range of scientific disciplines including structural biology, physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering, earth and environmental sciences. At Diamond we are currently undertaking a major upgrade of the facility, known as Diamond-II. Diamond-II will combine a new machine and new beamlines with a comprehensive series of upgrades to optics, detectors, sample environments, sample delivery capabilities and computing, which will ultimately generate an even more brilliant light source at a higher energy. About The Role We now have an opportunity for a Senior Electrical Technician to assist the Senior Electrical Project Engineer in carrying out project upgrades and operations activities related to the accelerator systems of the Diamond facility. The Main Duties Will Include Line management of technicians. Testing and maintenance of control and instrumentation systems for Injection, RF, diagnostics and vacuum systems. Safety inspections on electrical systems. Management of design, manufacture installation and testing of new front ends, insertion devices and upgrades to existing systems. Analysis of failure records, planning of repairs / upgrades during shutdown periods. Procuring materials and equipment for workshop activities. Supervision of Apprentices. About You As a Senior Electrical Technician, you will have completed a recognised Apprenticeship in an Engineering discipline, have a HNC (or equivalent) qualification or demonstrate significant equivalent experience. You will also have a BS7671 Wiring Regulations Qualification or equivalent knowledge. You Will Also Have Experience In HV & LV Electrical systems. Using Safe Systems of work, permits, risk assessments, etc. Electrical cabling to 18th Edition Wiring Regs. Supervising staff.
