Associate Urban Designer – Cambridge. Full Time, Permanent. At Pegasus Group, we realise potential through exceptional design.
From comprehensive urban extensions and strategic area regeneration projects to renewable energy and residential plans, our design teams possess an in-depth understanding of planning policies, ensuring the success of our initiatives. This role is to join our Design team in the Cambridge Office to deliver high‑quality Urban Design services, adhere to the highest standards, and provide support and guidance to junior team members.
This role offers an excellent opportunity to collaborate with a proficient team of designers and architects, engaging in urban design and planning activities, feasibility studies, layout development, development briefs, and design strategies for residential, mixed‑use schemes, and beyond.
What are we looking for
We are seeking professional designers who can demonstrate the following:
* Education to degree level or equivalent with a postgraduate qualification in Architecture or Urban Design.
* Strong portfolio with expertise producing design documentation (DAS, Design Codes, Development Briefs, Compliance Statements, etc.) that is sound, clearly structured and articulated.
* High competence in producing detailed site layouts, street scenes and house types for detailed applications and/or masterplans, parameter plans, DAS, etc. for outline applications.
* Exceptional design skills with the ability to resolve diverse technical requirements of the project with placemaking aspirations.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well either individually or in a team, with minimal supervision, and to confer with Directors on unusual matters.
* Ability to support, guide and train less experienced colleagues regarding technical requirements, project management, policies and processes.
* Strong reporting and presentation skills with the ability to actively lead project meetings and deliver presentations.
* Ability to take initiative and manage work across multiple projects proactively.
* Proficiency in using a variety of media in design development and documentation of a project.
* Ability to prioritise duties and work effectively under pressure while remaining calm and professional.
* Experience liaising with external consultants from other disciplines and coordinating project delivery.
* Experience leading public and stakeholder consultations across multiple projects.
Responsibilities
* Deliver high‑quality urban design services in line with Pegasus Group standards.
* Support and mentor junior designers, providing guidance on technical requirements, policies, and processes.
* Contribute to feasibility studies, layout development, development briefs, and design strategies for residential and mixed‑use schemes.
* Lead project meetings and prepare and deliver presentations.
* Collaborate with designers, architects, and external consultants to ensure cohesive design outcomes.
