Central Recruitment is currently recruiting for an Accommodation Officer, to work in the Hackney area. The service provides accommodation and support to adults aged 55 and older.

The successful candidate will be required to work 38 hours per week, working Monday – Friday, 9AM – 5PM. Temporary cover is required on a rolling weekly basis (approximately 1 – 2 months). The pay rate is £14.17 per hour, with £2.06 holiday pay, totalling £16.23 per hour.

Please note; you’ll be based across two older people’s services in the Hackney area.

In this position, you will be required to:

* Prepare for the arrival of new tenants, including liaising with London Borough of Hackney, supporting equipment and furniture deliveries

* Sign individuals to licence agreements and carrying out an inventory

* Explain the terms of the occupancy agreement to new residents and support them to understand their rights and obligations under that agreement

* Carry out weekly welfare checks on residents

* Induct residents into their new home explaining equipment use, contact points for emergencies and the occupants’ responsibilities regarding health & Safety

* Undertake end-of-tenancy checks before tenants vacate

* Ensure that any repairs/ decorating is reported

* Attend relevant meetings to provide feedback on interim HWC availability, arrangements for move-ins and partnership meetings with the housing provider

* Support the team manager in maintaining spreadsheets on the flat occupied, exit plans, and timeline for moving out

* Liaison with the DSPA management group to update on the availability of interim accommodation

* Minimise revenue lost regarding empty properties by working closely with colleagues across the business to continually review and refine the management of empty properties

* Ensure void status data is accurate

To apply for this role, you must have:

* Experience of providing a supported housing service to vulnerable tenants either through working for a housing association, a local authority or a voluntary organisation

* Experience of effectively managing and responding to complaints.

* Experience of managing tenancy breaches including anti-social behaviour

* The ability to provide welfare benefit and debt management advice

* The ability to carry out assessments and liaise with support providers to agree the prospective tenants’ suitability for the service being referred to

* The ability to attend court and represent the landlord at DIY possession hearings

* Experience of voids management and working to achieve targets

* Experience of carrying out property inspections, identifying building defects and liaising landlords and contractors to ensure repairs are carried out to the required standard

* Ability to establish and monitor housing benefit claims and negotiate arrears repayment agreements with tenants

* Ability to monitor and plan service charge expenditure

* A good understanding of the supported housing sector and the delivery of housing related support

* Knowledge of current housing legislation

Candidates must confirm their interest as soon as possible, with interviews scheduled shortly after and the appointed candidate expected to start Monday 5th January.

Further requirements:

In order to register with Central Recruitment Services for temporary agency work, candidates must meet the following criteria:

* Current valid right to work in the UK

* Minimum 12 months’ of paid experience in a front line social care role within the last 3 years* (unless recruitment criteria states otherwise)

* A fully enhanced DBS either registered on the DBS update service or issued within the last 12 months, or willingness to apply for one through Central (at a cost of £60)

* Employment or education history to cover the last 5 years which can be verified through the referencing process
