We are a fully integrated design and build business combining Mott MacDonald's design expertise with JN Bentley's contracting experience to deliver award-winning projects with a turnover of over £500 million. We have secured a new framework with Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water that will last up to eight years, covering projects across the DCC region including clean and wastewater treatment sites, below-ground assets, reservoirs and nature-based solutions. Our presence in Wales has grown significantly, directly employing over 270 colleagues across all roles.
You will contribute to projects that significantly impact our environment and communities. Working primarily in the UK water market, MMB provides feasibility, design, construction and commissioning services to keep water flowing and wastewater treated. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the process functions throughout the lifecycle of various projects, ensuring mechanical aspects are integrated from concept design to commissioning.
Responsibilities
* Lead and oversee the design, planning and execution of process engineering on projects. Develop process design deliverables such as process models, mass balances and control philosophies.
* Analyze site performance and identify risks that may impact project delivery; develop mitigations to avoid negative impacts or exploit opportunities.
* Challenge process selection and delivery effectiveness of initial solutions to ensure best value for clients.
* Identify opportunities for innovation to meet whole-life cost and net-zero drivers.
* Prepare and review designs for schemes to ensure they are fit for purpose and meet current legislation and standards.
* Produce and review technical specifications and procurement schedules; review supplier tender bids and technical submissions.
* Maintain broad knowledge of industry standards and legislation; challenge Client specifications when appropriate and defend solutions to complex problems.
* Identify opportunities to improve delivery processes including standard designs, sustainable solutions, and digital tools.
* Act as technical checker on project documents and undertake technical reviews across teams.
* Manage interfaces and integration of design with other disciplines and produce required documentation.
* Collaborate with engineers, specialists, clients and project teams to deliver fit-for-purpose solutions.
* Work with commercial, operational and construction teams to develop efficient, practical and safe solutions through design, construction and beyond.
* Supervise and mentor Graduates and Engineers, supporting their development.
* Engage with clients, manage relationships and promote a one-team approach to achieving aims.
* Undertake site reviews to ensure buildability and integration with existing systems.
What you’ll need
* Chemical Engineering or related Process Engineering degree, or related field.
* Chartered member of a professional institution (e.g., ICE, IMechE) or equivalent experience.
* Experience and understanding of water and/or wastewater unit processes and treatment plant; experience delivering process design for wastewater projects.
* HAZOP experience as chair or team member would be advantageous.
* Experience with water or wastewater projects (non-infrastructure or infrastructure).
* Proven ability to deliver high-quality outputs in line with design, quality and safety standards.
* Effective communication with team members and stakeholders; methodical problem-solving approach; proactive and pragmatic mindset.
* Ability to deliver results within short timeframes, prioritise tasks and manage time efficiently.
* Valid driving licence and willingness to travel to sites.

About Mott MacDonald Bentley
Mott MacDonald Bentley is a joint venture established in 1999 between JN Bentley and Mott MacDonald. It offers fully integrated design and build services, combining contracting expertise and design specialisms to deliver projects. This role is employed by Mott MacDonald but will involve working across the joint venture with Mott MacDonald and JN Bentley colleagues.
