MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:


To maintain and improve upon the services operated by MJ Davidson Groundworks Ltd (MJD) in accordance with Company procedures making full use of all available resources to ensure an efficient and reliable service.



To be responsible for the transport related administration for MJD.



To assist the Transport Manager with planning duties.



To assist the Transport Manager, in the achievement of all Company’s objectives from legal, budgetary and customer service criteria.


MAIN DUTIES/ACTIVITIES:


Operations


* To deputise for the Transport Manager in his / her absence.



* Ensure that agreed service levels are met for all customers.


* Ensure regular dialogue with all customers whether internal or external and plan on the correct use of manpower and equipment to ensure optimum utilisation of Company assets.



* Maintain an awareness of the major customer’s development plans and any opportunities for growth.



* Assist the Transport Manager in the production and utilisation of appropriate Key Performance Indicators, taking positive planning action to realise operational improvements where necessary.



* Planning the traffic operation in such a way as to ensure that current and future legislation is adhered to at all times.



* Assist the Transport Manager to ensure that fuel usage, driver performance and accident record is monitored, controlled, communicated and improved upon at all times by proper and systematic planning.



* Maintain a forward looking philosophy within a flexible teamwork based environment and ensure that a positive working culture is in place and remains in place by proper and systematic planning.



* Assist the Transport Manager to develop and maintain a well planned working environment which encourages employees, with support and guidance, to be self motivated and highly committed, whilst working to the best of their abilities.



* Liaise closely with the Transport Manager on all relevant operational matters to ensure that good, existing and future internal and external relationships are developed and maintained.



* Ensure a safe working environment and that procedures are in place to demonstrate compliance with HASAW Acts etc.


* Ensure that all employees and suppliers represent the Company’s image at all times.



* Utilise and develop the use of the Companies traffic management portal.


Personnel


* Maintain and improve upon employee relations at all levels by the proper implementation of Company policies and procedures.



Administration



* Ensure the Company’s transport administration procedures are correctly and promptly implemented and maintained which include but not limited to formal movement orders, drivers’ hours compliance, vehicle maintenance plans and fuel suppliers management.



General


* Ensure all Company and legal requirements in respect of Health and Safety at Work are complied with utilising proper and systematic planning.



* Ensure that standards of appearance of vehicles and employees set by the Company is maintained.



Skills and Job Knowledge


Must be capable of planning, organising and taking responsibility, for the work of an autonomous group of employees. Must be I.T. literate, with experience in the use of Transport systems.



Customer and service focussed at all times.



Personal character and integrity.



Drive and energy to see necessary changes through, in a positive manner.



Ability to show creative thinking and facilitate change from established ways of doing things.



Smart, presentable appearance at all times.



Good communicator with strong interpersonal skills.



Has the ability to build and develop relationships, particularly in a change management environment.



Traffic planning experience with commercial exposure.



Ability to ensure that systems are in place and remain in place to comply with legislative requirements at all times.



Ability to provide effective implementation of new ideas.
