Description Our Retail & Consumer Products team in the UK is seeking a Senior Staff Engineer who primarily responsible for conducting safety evaluation and quality compliance of products in the PFD (Personal Flotation Devices) and MED (Marine Equipment Directive) industries. You will also be our technical expert and scheme manager for PPER (Personal Protective Equipment Regulations) and MED (Marine Equipment Directive) schemes in Europe, whilst also representing UL Solutions on technical industry committees. Responsibilities Managing PPER/MED/MSR programs Technical committee liaison for US & Europe Technical Lead/SME for PFD categories Responsible for developing training plans & mentoring staff (higher level team members, reviewer training) Responsible for Management Reviews with team & appropriate leadership Handling projects within UL mark and European Mark programs Communicate effectively with external clients and internal teams – Field, Sales, Engineering etc Evaluate processes and determine process improvements Represents UL on technical committees of national and/or international organizations. Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job. Determines project scope and specifications with substantial latitude for action or decision. Recommends changes in procedures, design or equipment where necessary. Initiates communication with clients to promote and explain the benefits of new and existing services. Communicates with clients to provide technical assistance in reference to complex product evaluation and/or inspection and follow-up services. Follows up on contacts from clients. Resolves technical issues and explains UL procedures and requirements. Plans, conducts and supervises projects of major magnitude and scope. Determines areas in which the product is not in compliance with UL requirements or of any changes in project scope or specifications and notifies client. Coordinates administrative aspects of project management. May serve as Project Handler of record and may sign as Reviewer of record as assigned. Provides leadership and technical advice on special projects that involve complex, new or unusual issues. May provide direction as a Designated Engineer for specific product categories. Performs special projects as directed. Qualifications A University Degree in a relevant subject, Business or Engineering 8 years’ experience in a relevant technical capacity e.g. engineering. Strong people skills and ability to build relationships with internal and external customers A positive influencer, who is able to accept and drive change Strong communication skills Independent worker Able to operate across global time zones Experience as a scheme owner or in European mark programs Quality experience Knowledge of PFD (Personal Flotation Devices), MED (Marine Equipment) – understanding the type of documentation required for these industries is important.
