Job overview

To provide the highest standards of patient care and ensure that these standards of care are delivered.

To perform all general duties of trained theatre personnel and in addition any duty requiring special skill and ability within the surgical speciality.

Assess and plan care needs and develop, implement and evaluate programme of care.

Main duties of the job

We have full time clinical educators in post to provide educational support to new employees who will undergo a comprehensive training programme.

For those who are currently employed by the Trust as a Staff Nurse (anaesthetic trained)/ODP, you should instead apply through the Staff Nurse Transfer process via your line manager.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. Completed and achieved ADNS/BA (Hons) Nursing Studies OR Registered Nurse with NMC Registration (for nurses applying)
2. HE Diploma Operating Department Practice or ODP NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds 752/7. OR Registered ODP (for ODP applying)

Experience

Essential criteria

3. Evidence of inter- professional working
4. Completed competencies in Anaesthetics, Surgery & PACU (for ODP applying)

Skills

Essential criteria

5. Ability to work autonomously
6. Communication skills
7. Understanding the role of the theatre practitioner
8. Ability to work as an effective member of a team.
9. Effective handling of critical incidents.

Desirable criteria

10. Have Knowledge of the care of the peri-operative patient

Other Factors

11. Able to work cross-site if required
