Job Description:
The Mobile Withdrawal Management Service (MWMS) is a program offered in Southern Health-Santé Sud (SH-SS) where the team provides medically supported, non-residential withdrawal services and stabilization supports to clients. The program is for individuals 16 years and older for a period of 30 days.
Reporting to the Manager of Mental Health & Addictions – MWMS, the Health and Social Service Worker (HSSW) works within the guidance of the Manager and Health & Social Service Coordinator (HSSC) to assess clients' physical and psychological status during intoxication, withdrawal, and stabilization. Responsibilities include supporting client care and services in line with Southern Health-Santé Sud’s Community Mental Health & Addictions program goals and service delivery models. The role involves applying clinical judgement, evidence-based practices, continuous quality improvement, enhancing client access and navigation to services, monitoring program indicators, client flow, and outcomes. The HSSW works as part of an interdisciplinary team to respond effectively to clients and families, within a recovery-oriented care approach, aiming for growth and critical thinking. The role may include working in other program areas, providing intake, assessment, counseling, referrals, case management, group counseling, and educational sessions for both the addictions team and RAAM clinic, including cross coverage.
The incumbent exercises initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities and methods. The position operates in alignment with the mission, vision, values, and policies of Southern Health-Santé Sud.
Qualifications
* Core Addiction Practices certificate or equivalent education and training in substance use
* Undergraduate degree in social sciences or equivalent experience with at least two years of direct counseling experience
* Applied Counselling Certificate is an asset
* Understanding of issues related to addictions
* Certificate in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)
* Skills in interviewing and hope-inducing strategies
* Knowledge of recovery principles in treating substance use disorders
* Understanding of co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders
* Knowledge of mental health self-help and engagement strategies for clients and families
* Knowledge of community, mental health, and substance use resources for client care transfer
* Understanding of clinical work complexities and client populations
* Knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g., Personal Health Information Act, Mental Health Act)
* Proficiency in MS Office and technological applications (telehealth, virtual platforms)
* At least two years’ experience in substance use and mental health, including working with complex needs
* Team leadership experience and fostering inclusive environments
* Ability to work with clients with serious substance use and mental disorders
* Problem-solving and decision-making skills in complex situations
* Willingness to travel regionally
* Competence in risk and clinical assessment
* Strong communication skills
* Computer literacy
* Ability to prioritize in dynamic environments
* Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams
* Respect for cultural diversity
* Proficiency in both official languages is essential for bilingual positions
* Physical and mental capacity to meet job demands
