Machinery Mechanic 3 (Day) Location: Lake Wales, FL Position: Full-Time | Shift: Day Shift Department: Engineer Reports To: Maintenance Foreman and/or Maintenance Supervisor Pay: $29.19 to $32.47 per hour, based on qualifications The Machinery Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing production and packaging equipment used in beverage manufacturing. This role ensures equipment reliability, minimizes downtime, and supports continuous improvement initiatives. Depending on experience, mechanics will perform duties ranging from routine preventive maintenance to advanced diagnostics and major equipment overhauls. This position reports to Maintenance Foreman and/or Maintenance Supervisors Essential functions: Entry-Level Perform pre-operational and post-operational equipment checks and sanitation. Perform basic preventive maintenance (lubrication, inspections, filter changes, belt adjustments). Assist senior mechanics in troubleshooting and repairs. Maintain cleanliness and organization of tools, parts, and work areas. Learn to read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, and safety procedures. Support equipment changeovers and setups for production runs. Mid-Level Independently troubleshoot and repair mechanical issues on production and packaging equipment (fillers, conveyors, mixers, labelers, cappers, pumps, etc.). Conduct root-cause analysis to reduce recurring breakdowns. Fabricate or adjust machine parts when needed. Perform equipment alignments, calibration, and adjustments. Participate in continuous improvement projects to improve efficiency and safety. Train and mentor entry-level mechanics and operators on minor maintenance. Experienced / Senior-Level Lead troubleshooting efforts on complex mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. Plan and execute major equipment overhauls, rebuilds, and installations. Recommend improvements for equipment reliability and performance. Collaborate with engineering and production teams on new equipment commissioning. Serve as a technical expert and resource for less-experienced mechanics. Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards in all repair activities. Maintain a clean and organized work area in compliance with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices). All Levels Adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and personal protective equipment requirements. Ensure the department is clean, organized, and free of hazards to comply with safety regulations. Adhere to safety protocols, including proper lifting techniques and forklift safety procedures. Perform other duties as assigned, including assisting with stock counts and seasonal projects. Must be willing to run equipment as necessary. Regular attendance is required. Active participation and support of the plant safety program is required. Knowledge, Experience & Education Must pass minimal qualifying score on our mechanical eval and demonstrated ability test. Entry-Level: High school diploma or GED required; vocational/technical training preferred. 0–2 years of mechanical experience in a relative field. Mid-Level: 2–5 years of industrial maintenance or machinery repair experience in a manufacturing environment or a relative field. Technical education, or certifications combined with experience level may be considered to satisfy this expectation. Experienced/Senior-Level: 5 years of mechanical maintenance experience, preferably in food & beverage or high-speed manufacturing or a relative field. Technical education, or certifications combined with experience level may be considered to satisfy this expectation. Previous experience in a food or beverage manufacturing environment preferred. Basic math skills and the ability to weigh and measure accurately. Familiarity with HACCP, GMPs, and food safety regulations a plus. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team. Skills & Competencies Knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and basic electrical components. Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Welding, machining, or fabrication skills a plus. Strong commitment to safety and teamwork. Physical Requirements Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull materials and products weighing up to 55 pounds, occasional team lifts for heavier items. Stand, walk or sit for extended periods (8–12 hours per shift). Regular bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching overhead, and twisting while handling inventory or stocking shelves. Frequent use of hands and arms for material handling, scanning, labeling, and operating tools or equipment. Occasional use of ladders or step stools to access high storage areas and frequent use of stairs. Visual acuity required for reading labels, operating machinery, and working with digital scanners; hearing required for equipment alarms, communication with team members, and safety awareness. Follow all GMP practices, and food safety regulations Working Conditions Work may involve exposure to varying temperatures (hot or cold), dust, noise, and occasional fumes, depending on the manufacturing setting. Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection may be required.
