Overview
This job is for a Trust Doctor (ST1 equivalent) to provide care for patients receiving rehabilitation at our community wards at Farnham Hospital, with support/training from both middle grades and Consultant staff. This is a good post to gain experience in general medicine. The role is based in general and geriatric medicine at Farnham community hospital. The position is currently two days per week, 8:30 to 17:00 (Tuesday/Thursday or Monday/Wednesday). It is a fixed-term contract for 12 months; extension may be considered.
Responsibilities
* Provide care of ward patients under the guidance of senior staff.
* Work as part of the ward multidisciplinary team and actively participate in MDT meetings.
* Provide teaching to nursing and/or ancillary staff and undergraduate students.
* Participate in audits and research as arranged by the team.
* Perform duties in emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation with colleagues where practicable.
* Attend monthly clinical governance meetings.
Qualifications and Experience
* Essential: MBBS or equivalent; understands principles of patient confidentiality and data protection; understands the role of audit and clinical governance; completion of PRHO/F1 posts (or equivalent evidence of competence) at the time of taking up post; understands basic principles of research.
* Able to prioritise clinical need, know own limitations, and consult senior colleagues appropriately; able to communicate clearly in written and spoken English; able to discuss treatment options with patients; able to establish good working relations with patients, carers and multidisciplinary colleagues; able to contribute to teaching and learning; keeps professional knowledge up to date; able to manage time and prioritise workload; demonstrates initiative and professionalism; respects and promotes individuals’ rights and beliefs.
* Desirable: MRCP or working towards MRCP; leadership qualities; other degrees; computer literacy; experience at SHO level or equivalent in general medicine; participation in clinical audit; research experience.
* Special Requirements: Eligible for full GMC Registration to cover the scope of employment.
