The role
As a Network Asset Engineer, you’ll play a vital role in keeping our wastewater network running safely, efficiently, and reliably. Working with a wide range of equipment, you’ll deliver effective maintenance across Wastewater Network sites including pumping stations, powered screens, and detention tanks. You’ll work collaboratively with internal teams, contractors, and customers to help meet our performance, quality, and safety standards—making a real difference to essential services every day.
This is a shift-based role that requires out-of-hours working, including evenings, nights, weekends, and responding to incidents when required. To reflect this commitment, a shift premium is paid as a percentage of basic salary for working these hours.
Once established in the role, you’ll have the opportunity to upskill into a secondary electrical discipline. This will be supported through structured development and on-the-job learning, enabling you to broaden your technical expertise and increase your versatility across the network.
Achieving competency in this additional discipline will be recognised through enhanced remuneration, reflecting the added skills, capability, and value you bring to the role.
What you’ll be doing:
* Carrying out reactive, planned, and proactive fault finding to identify root causes of mechanical issues across Wastewater Network assets.
* Completing scheduled maintenance to ensure asset reliability, operational efficiency, and full compliance with Health and Safety policies and procedures.
* Supporting Network Asset and Maintainer Controllers by reviewing telemetry alarm levels, updating asset records, and contributing to contingency planning.
* Responding to reactive incidents such as alarms, customer reports, and field notifications, acting as the first point of response for powered assets.
* Identifying and escalating additional maintenance or capital investment needs to reduce repeat failures and improve long-term asset performance.
* Acting as the Person Controlling the Works (PCW) for contractor activities, ensuring all mechanical work is completed safely, on time, and within budget.
Please note: this role may not be eligible for sponsorship.
What we’re looking for:
* A minimum City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) qualification in a mechanical discipline, with time-served experience in mechanical engineering or a related field.
* A sound, demonstrable understanding of wastewater network assets and maintenance activities.
* Strong IT skills, with the ability to learn and confidently use internal systems while understanding their capabilities and limitations.
* The ability to work independently, using initiative and judgement when managing a varied and evolving workload.
* Good communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with colleagues, contractors, and customers from a wide range of backgrounds.
* Strong time-management skills, with the ability to meet agreed deadlines and personal objectives.
* A full UK driving licence, as travel between sites is required.
* A generous annual leave package of 26 days, which increases to 30 days after four years of service (increases one day per year), in addition to 8 bank holidays
* A competitive pension scheme with up to 14% employer contribution, 21% combined, and life cover
* Up to 7.5% performance-related bonus scheme, as well as recognition awards for outstanding achievements
* A comprehensive healthcare plan through our company-funded scheme
* MyGymDiscounts - gym and wellness benefit that offers up to 25% off on gym memberships and digital fitness subscriptions
