Team Leader, Driver, Street Cleansing Operative at WMJobs
To assist the Street Cleansing Supervisor in the day to day running of the Street Cleansing Department, including delegation of work, staff compliance with health and safety and risk assessments, ensuring staff complete the required paperwork, monitoring vehicle condition and cleanliness, and conducting quality control inspections. This role may involve working in an office environment and using basic IT systems (Word, Excel, Outlook), telephones and printers, as well as mobile tablets and smartphones to access and monitor the council’s online reporting system and provide work updates to staff and customers as needed.
You will also provide advice, guidance and on-the-job training to other staff to meet service objectives. Undertake environmental street cleansing activities such as mechanical and manual sweeping, clearance and removal of litter, silt, leaves, weeds and any other foreign materials from pavements, precincts, road surfaces, grass verges, flower beds and any other land as required by Operational Services Management.
Responsibilities
* Direct supervision of operatives in the absence of the Street Cleansing Supervisor.
* Report any problems identified in connection with Street Cleansing Operations to Operational Services Management.
* Assist in monitoring staff performance and adherence to safety requirements.
* Ensure paperwork and records (timesheets, vehicle check sheets, defect reports, etc.) are completed as required by Streetscene management and relevant authorities.
* Participate in environmental street cleansing activities and use of appropriate tools and equipment.
* Work in accordance with health and safety legislation and report hazards promptly to management.
* Assist with use of the council’s online reporting system and communicating with staff and customers as needed.
* Carry out duties across the Streetscene management remit as required by Operational Services Management.
* Normal working week includes Saturday duties on a rota basis (approximately once every 10 weeks); may require additional Saturdays to cover holidays or sickness.
Qualifications
* Current UK driving licence with a minimum of Class B, BE, C1 categories and no more than six penalty points.
* Chemical application license such as NPTC, PA1, PA6A or be prepared to obtain a chemical application license within 12 months of starting the position; competent in reading and understanding chemical labels, calibrating applicator, mixing chemical solutions and applying chemical at the correct dosage. Glyphosate-based weed killers are commonly used in this role.
* Experience removing and disposing of litter, dog foul bins, refuse and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
* Experience using hand tools and mechanical equipment to cut hedges, strim grass, cut back vegetation and clear weeds as required.
* Commitment to safe working practices and compliance with relevant legislation; able to raise safety concerns with management when needed.
* Ability to complete necessary documentation (timesheets, vehicle checks, defect reports) as required by management and statutory bodies.
* Ability to work in a rota including Saturdays and arrange cover when needed.
