Overview of the Role

We are looking for a Senior Civil Engineer to lead our utilities capability within the Transport and Mobility Solutions Division. You will manage complex multi‑disciplinary infrastructure and highways projects from scheme development through to design and build, delivering safety, innovation, and cost certainty.


Responsibilities

* Lead utility design/diversion for highway and public transport infrastructure.
* Promote and ensure adherence to our health and safety policy and procedures.
* Maintain knowledge of technical engineering codes such as NRSWA, HAUC and NJUG.
* Ensure compliance with utility company standard requirements.
* Manage discrete design packages, multi‑disciplinary teams, and client‑facing activities.
* Identify bespoke engineering solutions to reduce utility diversion scope, driving efficiencies and cost savings.
* Provide Utility Peer Review for major infrastructure schemes.
* Support business development and client network building.
* Show technical leadership, providing advice to clients and stakeholders.
* Assist in training and developing team members.
* Control task programmes and budgets.
* Present technical advice to clients and stakeholders.
* Provide input into bids/tenders where utilities present a major risk.
* Mentor early career staff.


Candidate Specification


Essential

* Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent (HNC/HND).
* Professional membership in relevant highways sector (e.g., ICE, MCIHT).
* Experience applying CDM requirements and a strong understanding of health, safety, wellbeing, and EDI matters.
* In‑depth knowledge of NRSWA and ability to manage utility diversions from C2 to C9.
* Experience managing multi‑disciplinary interfaces on major projects from concept through construction.
* Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D.


Desirable

* Demonstrated leadership, communication, and organisational skills, with willingness to travel for short UK or overseas assignments.
* Experience with engineering forms of contract (e.g., NEC3/4).
* Experience in Navisworks, Autodesk InfraWorks, Bentley Open Roads, ProjectWise and UK highway design codes and standards (DMRB, Manual of Contract Documents for Highways Works).
