An opportunity exists in the Council’s Street Scene Services for a Countryside Officer. This is a career graded post to allow the post holder to develop within a framework and progress from G6 to G8 based on qualifications, skills, knowledge, and experience gained within the Countryside Service. It is highly likely that at levels 1 – 2 the post holder will perform tasks that are higher than that grade (pay point) but this is to be expected if the post holder is to develop and meet the level of knowledge and experience required to progress to the next level. The post holders will be working in a small team which prides itself in protecting, maintaining and improving the districts precious Countryside sites which include 15 Local Nature Reserves and two SSSI’s. Working with partner organisations, other council services and volunteers to keep them in their best condition to support wildlife and for local people to visit and enjoy. The post holders will be involved in promoting the sites and the work undertaken by the service as well as producing a wide range of environmental information for educational purposes. Work will include habitat management and site maintenance, supporting volunteer activities on site, planning and delivering environmental education for children and young people, providing Forest School activities, developing management plans for sites, involvement in a wide range of project work, helping make improvements to biodiversity in urban parks and greenspaces, site safety checks and much more. Working with other members of the team, partners, stakeholders, communities and the public on a daily basis, the post holder will play a key role in providing a citizen-focused service which delivers clean, safe, accessible & attractive Countryside, parks and green spaces that are pleasant to live in and give the local community a sense of belonging.
