PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £45,000-£58,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Join the BBC Scotland Commissioning team to help shape the future of scripted storytelling. As Assistant Commissioner, you’ll play a key role in developing and delivering premium comedy and drama across BBC Scotland, BBC iPlayer and network platforms. You’ll champion digital-first content and nurture emerging talent, helping bring bold, distinctive stories to audiences in Scotland, the UK and beyond.

Your Key Responsibilities And Impact
* Support the Commissioning Editor for Scripted in delivering the comedy and drama strategy.
* Lead commissioning of short-form and digital scripted content across platforms.
* Develop relationships with Scottish talent and suppliers to shape standout projects.
* Provide editorial feedback on scripts and treatments, ensuring creative excellence.
* Oversee delivery of commissioned programmes, maintaining high editorial standards and value for money.
Essential Criteria
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
* Strong knowledge of the scripted landscape within and beyond the BBC.
* Deep understanding of Scottish content and talent, with a passion for comedy and drama.
* Proven experience in scripted programme-making.
* Demonstrable digital production experience (e.g. VOD, YouTube, social media).
* Excellent editorial judgement, written skills, and stakeholder management.
* Experience nurturing and developing creative talent.
* Track record of delivering complex projects with multiple stakeholders
Desired But Not Required
* Familiarity with commissioning processes and budget management.
* Strong leadership and collaborative team ethos.
* Experience representing organisations at industry events.
