2 Month Contract With A Local Authority
To support the Service Manager in delivering high‑quality Youth Justice Services to children, young people and their families. The postholder will deputise for the Service Manager, lead key operational and thematic areas, and manage a multi‑agency team to ensure effective service delivery, safeguarding and positive outcomes for children and young people. The role will contribute to service development, quality assurance, partnership working, performance improvement and the delivery of statutory Youth Justice responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
* Support and deputise for the Service Manager in the operational management of the Youth Justice Service.
* Manage and lead a multi‑agency team delivering prevention, out‑of‑court and court‑directed interventions.
* Provide robust management oversight, supervision and performance management to ensure high‑quality case management and interventions.
* Implement service development plans and contribute to quality assurance, audits and continuous improvement activity.
* Develop and maintain strong partnership working arrangements with Children’s Services, Education, Health, Probation, Police and other agencies.
* Ensure services meet National Key Performance Indicators and statutory Youth Justice standards.
* Lead funded projects, contribute to external funding bids and support budget management and reporting processes.
* Oversee safeguarding arrangements to ensure vulnerable children receive effective support and interventions.
* Chair meetings relating to risk management, welfare and multi‑agency planning.
* Oversee court services, restorative justice practices, victim support and out‑of‑court disposal processes.
* Monitor performance targets, allocate workload effectively and ensure timely delivery of interventions and outcomes.
* Develop and review interventions and support services to meet the needs of children and young people.
* Support the development of mentoring, mental health, substance misuse, domestic abuse and homelessness support pathways.
* Represent the Youth Justice Service at partnership meetings, boards and external forums.
* Contribute to policy and procedure development to promote best practice across the service.
* Manage operational priorities, resources and service delivery to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
* Promote equality, safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality and data protection standards across the service.
Requirements
* Experience managing services within Youth Justice, Children’s Services or a related statutory environment.
* Experience leading and supervising multi‑agency teams and managing complex casework.
* Strong knowledge of Youth Justice legislation, safeguarding, restorative justice and risk management practices.
* Experience of partnership working with agencies including Police, Probation, Health, Education and Social Care.
* Experience managing budgets, performance reporting and service improvement initiatives.
* Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills.
* Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver services to performance targets and deadlines.
* Experience contributing to audits, inspections, policy development and quality assurance activity.
* Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and improving outcomes for children and young people.
* Ability to work flexibly, including occasional evenings, weekends, court cover and public holidays where required.
