The role

Job Overview

As a Principal or Associate Geotechnical Engineer in our Foundations and Geotechnics team, you will broaden your experience working with a range of public and private sector clients on key projects. You will produce design solutions in line with Eurocodes, report specifications and drawings for foundations and geotechnics, deliver geotechnical and underground structure projects, and provide technical leadership through leading the team and managing their design work. You will also support larger projects as a client liaison, contribute to risk assessments, employ sustainability, and undertake budgeting and cost control.

Responsibilities

  • Client liaison and relationship building
  • Foundation, retaining wall and earthwork design
  • Management and delivery of ground investigations (scope, specifications, supervision, GIRs, GDRs, etc.)
  • Managing small and medium projects, including developing client relationships
  • Travel to project sites when necessary for project delivery
  • Managing medium to large single and multi‑disciplinary design teams
  • Lead and manage numerical modelling activities
  • Act as a client liaison for larger projects and participate in risk assessments
  • Support budgeting, cost control, and sustainability initiatives
  • Work autonomously and collaboratively with all levels of staff and clients

Qualifications

  • Masters or PhD degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on geotechnics
  • Relevant geotechnical experience with technical project delivery
  • Chartered Engineer status with ICE or equivalent
  • Experience managing medium to large teams of engineers
  • Experience managing ground investigations, GIRs and GDRs
  • Experience guiding and nurturing a team of engineers in their technical development
  • Mentoring of early‑career professionals
  • Prepared to travel nationally and internationally as needed for any project
  • Experience with numerical modelling
  • Knowledge and experience in programming/scripting (VBA, Python, etc.) is advantageous but not essential
