SEMH Teaching Assistant
We are looking for a committed SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant to provide support to pupils across KS1 and KS2. This role offers an excellent opportunity for educators aspiring to a career in teaching support, giving you valuable hands-on classroom experience while making a meaningful difference to students’ learning and wellbeing.
Children with social, emotional and mental health challenges often need extra support to manage emotions, build relationships and stay engaged in learning. By working one-to-one or in small groups, SEMH Teaching Assistants help create a calmer, more inclusive classroom environment, allowing teachers to focus on whole-class teaching while providing personalised strategies for pupils who need them. This early intervention makes a real difference to both wellbeing and academic progress. This is a new role within schools in Tameside so depending on the success of the support, schools will consider making this more of a permanent position.
Location: Tameside SK16
Job Type: Full-time, 8.15am-3.30pm (long-term opportunity)
Salary: £13.75- £14.50 per hour

Provide targeted support to pupils in KS1 or KS2, working one-to-one or in small groups to address social, emotional and mental health needs.

Help manage classroom behaviour and routines, using positive strategies to create a calm, inclusive environment.

Experience supporting primary-aged children, ideally in mainstream or SEN settings, with a strong understanding of social, emotional and mental health needs.
Current DBS certificate or willingness to apply through Teaching Personnel.
Excellent communication skills, patience and the ability to adapt to changing situations and pupil needs.
