We are currently searching for an associate to join our team for a 12month maternity cover contract, covering Metals and Mining from the macro side, and based in our London office (this is an in-office and not a remote or hybrid role).
Description
The Equity Research Associate will support our Sr. Metals and Mining Commodities Analyst, conducting detailed commodity market supply, demand and economic modelling, data processing, and written and graphical presentation of research. This role is ideal for individuals with a deep knowledge of metals & mining commodities, strong analytical skills and a passion for macroeconomics and mining. Key responsibilities include:
Conduct thorough analysis on metals and mining commodities from a macro lens.
Assist senior analyst in conducting comprehensive industry economic analysis.
Develop and maintain large data files that include supply/demand models and extensive data on commodities.
Analyse market data, and industry trends.
Prepare detailed research reports, presentations, and investment recommendations.
Monitor news, earnings releases, and other relevant information for the industry.
Engage with sales, trading, and investment clients.
Ensure compliance with all regulatory and firm policies.
Experience/Skills
Exceptional skills in writing, communication and attention to detail are essential. Prior mining/technical experience is preferred, but not required, although a demonstrable passion for mining will be an important determinant. Candidates must have a clear and proven track record of achievement throughout their education and career. Other necessary attributes include:
Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in industry and/or finance, preference given to those who have worked in metals and mining.
A positive attitude, intellectual curiosity, ability to learn quickly, and attention to detail.
Ability to systematically manage a heavy workload and meet stringent deadlines.
Solid technology skills with robust knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Bloomberg. Familiarity with programming languages like VBA/python highly desirable.
Superior work ethic, self-motivated and the ability to work independently as well as a team.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
A keen interest in commodity research and metals and mining.
Education
Candidates must have a strong undergraduate degree with excellent grades in engineering, science, economics, or finance, a masters degree and/or CFA is preferred.
