Job Description
The Project Engineering Discipline provides multi-discipline engineering team leadership and coordination across the engineering project lifecycle for sectors including Energy, Water, Transport, Nuclear, and Defence.
We are expanding our engineering team for UK projects in the nuclear fuels and decommissioning sector. We are interested in candidates with experience in Engineering Management roles at Concept/FEED/Detailed Design stages for multi-discipline projects in highly regulated environments.
Reporting to the Framework Senior Engineering Manager, you will manage the delivery of multi-disciplinary engineering design and subcontract packages across major projects, ensuring they meet schedule, budget, safety, and quality standards.
This position is based at the Costain Manchester Office, with an expectation of working in-office up to three days per week. Our flexible working policy allows for discussions on where, when, and how to work, subject to role and client requirements. Travel to company, supplier, or client sites may be required.
Responsibilities
* Manage the delivery of multi-discipline engineering design across project stages, ensuring safety, sustainability, digital enablement, cost-effectiveness, compliance, and technical accuracy.
* Identify and utilize engineering resources effectively to meet project requirements and optimize productivity.
* Ensure all engineers understand project scope, design basis, budget, and schedule.
* Coordinate engineering and design interfaces with project partners and supply chain.
* Support project management with contractual communications, progress, risks, costs, and contract actions.
* Report on engineering performance to senior management.
* Maintain a commercial focus, challenge scope creep, and ensure use of company processes and standards.
* Identify and mitigate project risks early, escalate issues promptly.
* Ensure compliance with governance, standards, and approvals.
* Build and develop team relationships, fostering trust and support.
* Lead by example, uphold safety and ethical standards, and ensure client satisfaction.
* Promote health, safety, and environmental compliance.
* Collaborate with business development to develop and tender new opportunities.
* Support the development and mentoring of engineering staff.
* Improve project engineering processes, workflows, and standards, capturing lessons learned.
Qualifications
Essential
* Experience in coordinating multi-discipline engineering teams in Nuclear, Chemical, or similar sectors.
* Knowledge of project delivery processes from work winning to handover.
* Understanding of UK standards and global best practices in the nuclear sector.
* Strong focus on process safety, quality, and environmental leadership.
* Knowledge of Project Controls (Schedule, Cost, Risk, Change Management).
* Collaborative, innovative, and agile mindset.
* Customer-facing skills with relationship development and influence ability.
* Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
* Ability to work regularly from the Manchester office.
* Willingness to travel to project sites and offices.
Qualifications
* Honours Degree or equivalent in an engineering-related subject.
* Ability to achieve SC clearance.
Desirable
* Chartered Engineer and membership of a professional institution.
* APM qualification or accreditation.
