Part‑Time Personal Assistant

Overview

A full‑time wheelchair user (electric and manual) living in Dinas Powys, seeking a part‑time personal assistant to provide at‑home support, including personal care, mobility assistance, and occasional social support. The role is double‑handed and will work alongside another assistant or family member.

Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive personal care and assistance around the home, including:

• Mobility support – pushing manual and electric wheelchairs
• Assisting with meal preparation and eating, including cutting and opening food
• Personal hygiene and toileting support
• Bed transfers and shower assistance
• Hoisting and manual handling where needed
• Providing respite for family members
• Planning and accompanying to social activities (theatre, sports, crafts, etc.) as discussed

Qualifications & Requirements

• Friendly, outgoing, patient, and able to communicate effectively
• Experience or knowledge of caring for someone with complex mobility needs
• Organised, able to plan schedules with input
• Flexible with hours (including evenings and weekends)
• Driver’s license with confidence to drive a wheelchair‑accessible van (preferred)
• Ability to work in a team and collaborate with another PA when required

Hours of Work

10 hours per week, approx. 1.5 hours per session; includes mornings, evenings, and weekends. Flexibility is essential.

Rate of Pay

£12.65 per hour, paid four‑weekly.

About the Job

Subject to satisfactory references and DBS/Police Check. The local authority will cover the cost of the check. All candidates must verify UK work eligibility and provide a National Insurance number. The role includes a four‑week trial period. Holiday pay will be provided.
