Overview
The purpose of the role is to support TBC’s delivery of evidence-based advice to a wide range of clients who are aiming to integrate nature into their business processes. Many of our clients are looking to align with corporate assessment, target-setting and reporting standards for nature such as TNFD, SBTN, GRI, and CSRD, site-based standards like PS6, and emerging guidance on accounting, metrics, and claims about outcomes for nature. The Biodiversity Consultancy has been developing methods, services and products to help enable clients to interpret and meet these emerging requirements and guidelines – this role will further support this important work. The role will be split between supporting client projects and internal technical development to improve and maintain our services. The role has a broad nature focus, including water and climate as well as biodiversity.
Core responsibilities
* Research and keep abreast of key guidance, standards, publications, and scientific literature relevant to nature target setting and mitigation by business and finance, synthesising them clearly and concisely for a business audience
* Support the design and delivery of projects for leading companies across a range of sectors
* Provide training and guidance to TBC teams on key target setting and reporting standards
* Support clients to understand the biodiversity and nature reporting landscape, including how different frameworks relate to each other and the aspects of each framework that are salient to each business
* Support development of products and services in relation to key target setting and reporting standards
* Support on proposals to new and existing clients.
Essential skills and experience
* Exceptional information assimilation and communication skills: ability to rapidly digest multiple information sources, write and edit succinct and insightful summaries and reports, and prepare and deliver insightful presentations
* Two years or more experience in a researcher or analyst role or equivalent
* Familiarity with business frameworks for target setting and / or assessing and disclosing nature-related impacts, dependencies, risks and opportunities, ideally across multiple environmental disciplines, but including at least one of biodiversity, water and climate
* A thorough understanding of ecological principles
* Ability to understand the private sector
* Highly organised, with excellent time management and the ability to prioritise competing demands.
* Proactive, with strong problem-solving skills and initiative to identify and pursue opportunities.
* Collaborative and able to work effectively across teams, disciplines, and cultures.
* Critical thinking, with strong problem-solving skills
* Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy and quality in all outputs, and a commitment to embed science- and evidence-based approaches into client deliverables and advice.
* Master’s degree (or Bachelor’s degree plus additional practical experience), in natural or social sciences (e.g., natural sciences, geography, biology or ecology), business sustainability or environmental law
* Data analysis and visualisation skills
* Experience working with businesses on nature assessment and target setting
* Familiarity with scientific publishing
* PhD in relevant environmental or social science
* A proven ability to be able to work in French or Spanish.
* Experience working on conservation or implementation of the mitigation hierarchy in the field
