The Design Manager is responsible for leading the design function within a manufacturing environment, ensuring products are developed efficiently, compliantly and in line with customer and regulatory requirements. The role combines technical leadership, project oversight and cross-functional collaboration, supporting the full product lifecycle from concept through to production and ongoing improvement.
Role
* Lead and manage the design team, providing technical direction, mentoring and workload planning.
* Oversee product design activities from concept, development and validation through to manufacture.
* Ensure designs meet functional, regulatory, quality and manufacturing requirements.
* Maintain control of design standards, specifications and technical documentation.
* Work closely with manufacturing, quality and engineering teams to ensure designs are practical, cost-effective and manufacturable.
* Support new product introduction (NPI) and product change processes.
Develop and improve design processes, tools and systems
Promote best practice, knowledge sharing and continuous professional development within the team.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
* Proven experience in a Design Manager or Senior Design Engineer role within a manufacturing environment.
* Strong understanding of product development and design for manufacture.
* Experience working within regulated or compliance-driven industries.
* Competent in CAD and design management systems.
* Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver to deadlines.
