Mechanical Fitter
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Mechanical Fitter to join our busy team in Taunton. The successful candidate will be responsible for building and assembling a wide range of special‑purpose machinery in line with engineering drawings and quality standards. This role requires strong mechanical knowledge, hands‑on assembly experience and confidence using a variety of hand and power tools. The Mechanical Fitter will play a key role in ensuring all products meet stringent quality and performance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Assemble mechanical components in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications
Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively
Build small sub‑assemblies through to larger mechanical sections
Fit bearings, taper‑lock pulleys, gears and associated components
Install and run pneumatic and hydraulic pipework
Carry out quality checks to ensure all work meets required standards
Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment
Work collaboratively with colleagues to optimise build processes and resolve assembly issues
Skills & Qualifications
Fully time‑served Mechanical Fitter/Engineer
Mechanical engineering qualification (essential)
Proficient in the use of hand tools and power tools
Experience using machine tools (advantageous)
Strong mechanical understanding with the ability to interpret technical drawings
Experience working with pneumatics and hydraulics
Fabrication experience (advantageous)
Excellent communication skills
Ability to set a positive example and support team members
Able to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced environment
