Job Summary
NHS Locum Consultant in Elderly Medicine
Employment Format
Full time or Job share.
Northampton General Hospital is looking for an enthusiastic and forward‑thinking Consultant in Geriatric Medicine to join and help develop the successful service that the Trust provides. This is an exciting opportunity for the new team member to join our well‑located DGH at a time when the department is changing practice throughout the hospital. We are looking to develop new areas of working so candidates with special interests will be accommodated and supported as much as possible.
This is an exciting time for Northampton General Hospital as we are establishing a service for frail elderly patients on the Emergency Medical assessment unit. Current service consists of two Specialist Nurses for Elderly Medicine to carry out Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment within 24 hours of admission to Medical assessment units. They are supported by dedicated sessions of trust grade Registrar and a consultant Geriatrician. They identify suitable patients for multidisciplinary team assessment on two admission units to enable prompt and safe discharges. This service also identifies appropriate patients for 2 short‑stay elderly wards which are managed by Geriatricians.

* Join the on‑call rota for acute medical admissions to the emergency units.
