Midwifery Led Unit and Homebirth Midwife

Main Duties of the Job
* Assessing and advising on the needs of women, birthing people, partners, families, and carers, and providing emotional support during all stages of pregnancy and post‑natal care.
* Planning, delivering and evaluating standards of evidence‑based midwifery care.
* Supporting women and birthing people in both the midwifery‑led unit and home environments.
* Recognising deterioration in the physical or mental condition of a patient and taking appropriate action, escalation and managing emergencies.
* In times of high acuity, members of the MLU/Homebirth team may be escalated to assist community midwives with their day‑to‑day activities.
Job Responsibilities
We are excited about the opportunity to invite an experienced midwife to join our MLU and homebirth teams. The successful candidate will be based out of one of our midwifery‑led units and offer the entire spectrum of midwifery care from the antenatal period, through intrapartum care, to post‑natal care. We encourage midwives that have a passion for promoting physiological birth and wish to develop as confident, autonomous practitioners.
In return, we will provide specialist training both in‑house and through collaboration with local universities to promote your individual professional development and recognize the importance of lifelong learning.
You will be well supported with a bespoke induction and training package by members of our specialist Practice Development Team who will ensure your support as you transition to your new role both professionally and personally. The successful candidate will be supported and encouraged to seek educational opportunities to further their Continuing Professional Development and career progression. You will also have the opportunity to assist in supporting the development of our preceptorship, Internationally Educated and student midwives.
About the Trust
We provide hospital services from two acute sites – Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester‑Le‑Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale, as well as over 80 other community‑based settings and in patients’ homes.

Person Specification
Statutory Registration
* Must be an NMC registrant.
Qualifications
* Registered midwife with valid NMC registration.
* Completed an approved mentorship course.
* Professional Midwifery Advocate.
Special Requirements
* Must have a valid Full UK driving licence.
Experience
* Band 6 midwife with relevant experience providing intrapartum care.
* Experience providing intrapartum care in the home.

Salary
£39,959 to £48,117 a year (Per Annum Pro Rata)
