Controls Engineer /Control Systems Engineer
Location: Leeds, West Yorkshire (LS10)Salary: £40,000 - £55,000 + Benefits
A growing machinery manufacturer specialising in automated production and process equipment is looking to recruit a Control Systems Engineer / Controls Engineer to join their engineering team in Leeds.
The company designs and manufactures bespoke automated production and process machinery used within manufacturing and industrial processing environments. This position is open due to continued growth and increasing demand for the companys automation systems.
The role will focus on the programming, development and commissioning of PLC-controlled machinery, working closely with mechanical and electrical engineering teams to deliver reliable automation solutions.
The Role
Working from the Leeds office, you will be responsible for the control system design, programming and commissioning of automated production and process machinery.
Typical responsibilities include:
* Programming PLC controllers (Programmable Logic Controllers) used within automated machinery
* Developing HMI interfaces to allow operators to control and monitor machine performance
* Programming PLC systems using platforms such as Siemens TIA Portal / Step 7, Omron, or Rockwell (Allen-Bradley)
* Developing ladder logic, structured text and function block programmes
* Commissioning PLC-controlled machinery during factory acceptance testing and on-site installation
* Integrating sensors, actuators and instrumentation within automated systems
* Designing and supporting electrical control systems and machine control architecture
* Supporting the development of flexible control systems that can be adapted for different production requirements
* Supporting remote diagnostics and troubleshooting of PLC and HMI systems
* Working closely with mechanical, electrical and process engineers during machine development
* Supporting on-site commissioning and system integration with customer production equipment
* Commissioning machinery primarily in-house with limited site travel.
About You
We are interested in engineers with experience developing PLC and HMI control systems used within automated machinery or industrial manufacturing environments.
Key requirements include:
* Degree or HNC in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, Automation Engineering, or equivalent experience
* Experience programming PLC controllers (Programmable Logic Controllers)
* Experience developing HMI systems
* Experience programming and commissioning PLC-controlled machinery
* Understanding of electrical control systems used in automated equipment
* Experience integrating sensors, instrumentation and machine safety systems
* Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team
You may currently work as a:Control Systems Engineer, Controls Engineer, PLC Engineer, Automation Engineer, Electrical Controls Engineer, Control Engineer, or Electrical Design Engineer.
