Job Summary

Stockport East and South PCN are looking to expand our team and are seeking to employ a highly motivated, newly qualified General Practitioner to work alongside our practices and PCN staff.

Applicants should be recently qualified and able to start ASAP (Dec 25 / Jan 26). We are unable to consider candidates with a Feb 2026 CCT date.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our multi-disciplinary PCN team consisting of 8 GP Practices, Clinical Pharmacists, Paramedics, Social Prescribers, Physiotherapists, Care Coordinators, Health Coach and Pharmacist Technicians.

Sessions: We will consider both full‑time of up to 8 sessions per week, or part‑time posts of at least 4 sessions a week.

Place of Work: Stockport South and East PCN.

Employer: Practice within the PCN.

Contract: 6 month fixed‑term contract, subject to the funding related to the ARRS role.

Clinical Responsibilities

* Make yourself available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations, home visits, checking and signing/authorising repeat prescriptions, and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.
* Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self‑referenced or referred.
* Assess the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
* Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
* Develop care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols.
* Provide counselling and health education.
* Refer to other care providers as appropriate.
* Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
* Compile and issue computer‑generated acute and repeat prescriptions.
* Prescribe in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary or generically whenever appropriate.
* Visit patients during surgery time in an emergency if clinically indicated.
* Participate in the extended hours enhanced service.
* Undertake fair share of home visiting sessions per week as allocated.
* Experience with audit and ability to lead audit programmes.


Organisational Quality and Patient Services

* Recognise and work within own competence and professional code of conduct as regulated by the GMC.
* Follow all practice and PCN policies and guidelines, including prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, security, health and safety policies.
* Demonstrate efficient and prompt delivery of administrative tasks.
* Prioritise, organise and manage own workload and resources to maintain and promote quality.
* Assess own performance and take accountability for own actions.
* Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including Significant Event Analysis and review of patient complaints.
* Contribute to the ongoing development of the Practice–PCN local and national standards and targets (e.g., Quality and Outcomes Framework).
* Support the aims and objectives of all practice policies and procedures to ensure high quality care, service delivery and minimise risk.


Communication

* Communicate regularly with health professionals and managerial staff to ensure smooth running of the practice.
* Liaise with multidisciplinary team members, including ICB, hospitals, community services and other agencies.
* Communicate effectively with patients and carers, recognising their needs for alternative methods of communication.
* Demonstrate sensitive communication styles to ensure patients are fully informed and consent to treatment.
* Communicate difficult, unpleasant or sensitive messages to patients and families.
* Participate in Practice and PCN meetings as appropriate.


Teamwork

* Work as an effective and responsible team member, supporting partners and other members of the practice team in a flexible manner.
* Show commitment to maintain and demonstrate compliance with practice vision, values and behaviours.
* Understand own role and scope within the organisation and identify how this may develop over time.
* Contribute to the effectiveness of the team by reflecting on own and team activities and making suggestions for improvement.
* Ensure clear understanding and utilisation of referral mechanisms.
* Participate in and support locality projects as agreed with the practice and PCN management team.


Information Resources

* Review and process data using accurate SNOMED coding to ensure easy and accurate information retrieval for monitoring and auditing purposes.
* Understand and follow confidentiality requirements, including Data Protection and the Freedom of Information Act.
* Follow practice policy regarding use of email and computer tasks, and use of the intranet and internet as the main source of internal and external information.


Other Responsibilities within the Organisation

* Contribute to the development and achievement of the PCN strategy and goals.
* Participate in and promote the practice online services to patients (e.g., online medical viewer) and involve in the practice online consultation system.
* Be aware of and comply with all relevant policies and guidelines.

* Information may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with practice policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and personal data protection.


Security, Health & Safety

* Assist in promoting and maintaining health, security and safety as defined in practice policies.
* Use personal security systems within the workplace according to guidelines.
* Identify risks involved in work activities and undertake such activities in a way that manages those risks.
* Make effective use of training to update knowledge and skills.
* Maintain work areas tidy and safe, following infection control procedures.
* Report potential risks identified.


Personal and Professional Development

* Maintain continued education through study days and participation in training programmes implemented by the practice.
* Participate in an annual individual performance review and maintain a record of personal and professional development.
* Take responsibility for own development, learning and performance and demonstrate skills and activities to others.


Education and Experience

* Essential: Newly Qualified GP, under 2 years from qualification, not previously employed substantively at a GP practice, experience working in primary care, experience of continuous professional development, general understanding of the primary care contract, experience of medicines management, experience of QOF.
* Desirable: Experience of clinical audit.


Qualifications

* Essential: Qualified GP, MRCGP, Vocational Training Certificate or equivalent JCPTGP, General Practitioner (Certificate of Completion of Training CCT).
* Desirable: None specified beyond essential.


Skills

* Essential: Excellent communication skills (written and oral), clear polite telephone manner, competent in Office and Outlook, EMIS user skills, effective time management, ability to work as a team member and autonomously.
* Desirable: Strong IT skills.
