Job Title: Controls Engineer - Electrical
Location: Birmingham - fully on-site.
Contract: Full-time
We are partnering with a world-renowned specialist in industrial automation to recruit an Electrical Controls Engineer. This is a critical role within a team that designs and manufactures complex, high-spec systems for the automotive and logistics sectors.
You will be responsible for taking sophisticated automation projects from the initial design phase through to production, ensuring every system is engineered for maximum reliability and safety. This is a perfect role for an engineer who enjoys technical variety - ranging from hardware design and BOM creation to developing safety-critical software.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the production of electrical control systems for complex machinery, overseeing the project lifecycle from concept to final handover.
* Utilise Eplan or AutoCAD Electrical to produce detailed wiring diagrams, schematics, and comprehensive Bills of Materials (BOM).
* Ensure all designs meet regulatory standards, specifically focused on BS EN 13849 and 60204. You will be responsible for generating safety buy-off documentation and performing necessary calculations.
* Act as the technical bridge between manufacturing and production departments, providing expert support to ensure design intent is realised on the shop floor.
* Develop and test prototype control systems, rigs, and models to validate performance before full-scale deployment.
* Work closely with external vendors to source components that align with specific project performance and cost requirements.
What We’re Looking For:
* Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline (HNC/HND with significant experience will also be considered).
* Proven track record in a design-focused role within the automation, robotics, or special-purpose machinery sectors.
* Hands-on experience with Safety PLCs, Industrial PCs, Drive Control Systems, and Inverters.
* Highly proficient in Eplan or AutoCAD (Mechanical/Electrical).
* A strong understanding of safety-related parts of control systems and relevant European/British standards.
This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a global leader with genuine opportunities for career progression within an international engineering network.
