Hays Education is looking for a Behaviour Teaching Assistant who specialises in Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) issues to work in a provision in Leicester for pupils who are unable to access mainstream education. This is a term-time only position. If you have experience supporting vulnerable young people, we'd love to hear from you.
Your new school
You'll be working in an SEMH (Social, Emotional, Mental Health) Secondary School in Towcester for young people aged 11-18 with behavioural, emotional, and social difficulties who have not been able to settle happily into mainstream provision. The school is growing, with over 63 students. It features a vocational hub and follows the National Curriculum, enabling students to develop skills in areas such as Motor Vehicle Studies, Construction, Hair and Beauty, and Engineering.
Your new role
As a Behaviour Teaching Assistant, you'll mentor pupils throughout their school day: managing behaviour in the classroom and supporting during transition times. You'll serve as a positive role model and offer 1:1 support to individuals needing guidance. Pupils may have additional needs including SEMH, ASD, and ADHD. Working with Hays, you'll have access to part-time and full-time opportunities in SEND and mainstream schools across Leicestershire. What you need to succeed
To succeed, you should have experience working with vulnerable young people, ideally in education or as a mentor/coach. You should thrive in challenging environments and enjoy adapting to new situations. Experience supporting young people with SEMH, ASD, and ADHD is essential. Most importantly, you should be confident stepping into a new school and ready to support pupils with various needs.
