Offer description

Write a short description of your company, a boilerplate of the business, service or product that you offer. Include your business idea and the target audience. This text is primarily supposed to be descriptive, not selling.

A high-performing independent day school in Cambridge is seeking an inspiring Teacher of English to join its successful and well-resourced English department. This is a wonderful opportunity for a passionate English specialist to teach motivated pupils in a setting that values scholarship, creativity and outstanding classroom practice.

The school offers an exceptional learning environment with excellent facilities, strong pastoral care and a culture of intellectual curiosity. Pupils are engaged, respectful and eager to learn, and class sizes are typically smaller than in many settings, allowing teachers to know pupils well and deliver ambitious, responsive teaching.

-----------------------------------

The Role

As Teacher of English, you will teach across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the opportunity to contribute to KS5 depending on experience and departmental need. The English curriculum is broad, challenging and thoughtfully sequenced, designed to develop pupils who can read deeply, write fluently and speak with confidence.

You will teach a wide range of literature and language, supporting pupils to develop:

* Close reading and sophisticated textual analysis

* Confident extended writing with a strong academic voice

* Accurate grammar, style and vocabulary choices

* Discussion and debate skills through purposeful oracy work

* Creative writing and wider reading habits that build imagination and insight

Pupils study novels, plays, poetry and non-fiction, exploring writers’ craft, context and the power of language. Lessons encourage thoughtful interpretation, independent thinking and high-quality written expression, while ensuring pupils develop strong examination technique where relevant.

You will contribute to shared planning, enrichment and the wider co-curricular life of the school, including reading initiatives, clubs, trips or theatre visits.

-----------------------------------

The Department

The English department is an academically ambitious and collaborative team with a strong culture of professional dialogue and shared commitment to excellence. Teachers work together to develop rich schemes of work, discuss pedagogy and share resources that stretch and support pupils at all levels.

English is highly valued within the school, and pupils are encouraged to read widely beyond the curriculum. The department promotes:

* A vibrant reading culture and thoughtful literary discussion

* High standards of writing, editing and redrafting

* Challenging texts that develop intellectual confidence

* Supportive feedback that helps pupils refine their craft

Enrichment is an important part of the department’s work, with opportunities for writing competitions, author events, drama links and reading groups where possible.

-----------------------------------

The School

This Cambridge independent day school is known for high academic standards, excellent pastoral care and a broad co-curricular programme. Pupils are supported to aim high while developing confidence, character and a strong sense of purpose.

Staff benefit from strong professional development, excellent resources and an environment where expertise is valued. The school encourages staff to contribute to the wider life of the community and supports innovative teaching within a clear and ambitious curriculum framework.

What the School is Looking For

The successful candidate will:

* Hold QTS or an equivalent teaching qualification

* Have strong subject knowledge in English Language and Literature

* Deliver engaging, academically ambitious lessons that inspire deep thinking

* Support pupils to develop confident oracy, analytical reading and excellent writing

* Contribute positively to departmental planning and enrichment

* Maintain high standards while building warm, professional relationships with pupils

Applications are welcomed from experienced teachers and those earlier in their career who can demonstrate strong subject expertise and a commitment to excellent English teaching.

-----------------------------------

Why Join This School

* Teach motivated pupils in a calm, purposeful learning environment

* Smaller class sizes and excellent facilities/resources

* Strong English department with a culture of scholarship and collaboration

* High-quality professional development and supportive leadership

* Rich co-curricular opportunities in a Cambridge setting

This is a fantastic opportunity for an English teacher who wants to inspire outstanding reading and writing, teach ambitious pupils, and contribute to a thriving department — in a leading Cambridge independent day school.
