Applicants who do not meet the essential criteria will be considered under the Annex 21 training programme, where whilst undergoing training, they will be paid 75% of the top of Band 7 and on completion of training will then move on to Band 7 scale.

The Role
The main role for the Health Visitor (HV) is to be the designated named HV for all Children within their caseload from antenatal to school entry age, excluding the unborn child. This requires the HV to commence the child’s planning process. To discharge these responsibilities the postholder will have a responsibility to monitor the child’s wellbeing and assess if a need is identified. They will work in partnership with the child’s family and all involved agencies to produce a child’s plan which will require to be monitored.
In discharging these responsibilities the postholder is responsible and accountable for maintaining clinical, staff and information governance.
Note: This is a fixed‑term post from 31 August 2026 – 6 September 2027. Where a post only has temporary funding and an existing member of NHS Lanarkshire staff wishes to apply, this will be treated as a secondment. The employee MUST already have written agreement from their line manager to be released on a secondment before applying for the post.
In This Key Role, You Will
* Undertake statutory duties on behalf of NHS Lanarkshire with respect to individual children within your caseload to assess, improve and support the wellbeing of children.
* Work with all professionals involved with the child or young person and their families to assess, analyse, develop and agree a multi‑agency child’s plan based on the agreed policies and procedures. Implement and monitor the plan to endeavour to ensure the child’s needs are met and desired outcomes achieved.
* Work in partnership with individual children’s families, working with other agencies and key stakeholders to ensure that all parties undertake their responsibilities within the agreed plan.
* Oversee the health visitor’s responsibilities from the antenatal period to school entry, excluding the unborn child, receiving wellbeing concerns from a variety of sources in partner agencies (e.g. police reports) and from any member of the community. Analyse information received and include it in the assessment of the child’s wellbeing, needs and potential risks. If the level of concern requires instigation of Child Protection procedures, or if the child’s needs are not met, the HV will escalates concerns to line and/or professional manager as determined by professional standards, policies and procedures.
What You’ll Bring
* Registered nurse or midwife at degree level or equivalent.
* Post‑registration qualification in Health Visiting/Public Health Nursing and be registered on Part 3 of the NMC register.
* Educated to Masters level in a relevant nursing area, or
* Can demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge gained through, for example, completion of NES modules on Assessment, Leadership, and Critical Thinking.
* Can provide advice using significant understanding and application of legislation relating to information sharing, data storage and public protection.
* A driving licence is required; this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.
