Our retail outlets are a vital part of what we do, generating essential income that directly supports the hospice. Every item sold in our shops or donated to us helps fund the compassionate end-of-life care we provide. With 15 retail shops across North Derbyshire, a dedicated Furniture Store, Donation Centre, two bustling Clearance Shops, and two welcoming Coffee Shops, our retail presence continues to grow. We also operate two successful eBay platforms - one for clothing and one for general goods - alongside a fully online furniture shop. Our shops not only raise vital funds, but also create social value by offering volunteering opportunities, affordable goods, and a welcoming space for people in our local communities. It’s a dynamic, fast-paced operation that’s making a real difference every day!
The Deputy Manager will support the Shop Manager developing and effectively managing an Ashgate Hospice Shop achieving store income targets and forging strong links within the local community, acting as an Ashgate Hospice Ambassador to promote the hospice. The post holder will be accountable for the effective management of staff, volunteers, income, customer experience, stock and administration duties, building a culture within the team which aligns with the Ashgate Hospice values and supports a “One Ashgate” approach by providing a strong link between the shop and other departments within the wider Hospice.
Key responsibilities:
* Achieve and where possible, exceed, shop income and expenditure targets on a weekly, monthly, and annual basis. Identify and proactively address areas of shortfall.
* Use management knowledge and reports available to ensure the shop stock is displayed proportionately, price ranges are in-line with the pricing structure
* Support the Shop Manager and undertake regular 121’s with staff that you have responsibility for. Coach the team on effective sales, customer experience, security and stock management best practices

* Financial awareness and the ability to work to income targets, maximise sales opportunities, and ensure effective stock control and visual merchandising standards.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with customers, volunteers, colleagues, and the local community.
* A flexible and adaptable approach, with a willingness to learn and embrace change in a dynamic retail environment.
* A strong commitment to the values, aims, and objectives of Ashgate Hospice, and a desire to make a positive difference to the lives of local people.

Ashgate Hospice, based in North Derbyshire, offers free palliative and end of life care for adults with life-limiting or incurable illnesses, including cancer, neurological diseases, and advanced heart, kidney, and lung conditions. Last year, we cared for over 2,400 people. Our aim is to support our patients by keeping them informed, managing their symptoms, and improving their quality of life from diagnosis onwards.
