The main responsibilities include providing excellent educational experiences, support, and leadership to postgraduate ultrasound students across Radiology Departments. The successful candidate will serve as a role model, delivering high-quality teaching and patient care while aligning with national guidance and the Hywel Dda University Health Board's clinical governance agenda.
The Sonographer Clinical Practice Educator will maintain a positive learning environment, delivering clinical teaching, mentorship, and leadership across the Health Board. You will work with trainee Sonographers, Radiology Registrars, qualified Sonographers, Consultants, and other healthcare professionals to support their clinical development.
This role requires expert clinical knowledge and experience in obstetric and general ultrasound; subspecialty expertise is advantageous.
Main duties of the job
1. Deliver high-quality ultrasound teaching to diverse healthcare professionals, including radiographers, trainee Sonographers, Radiology Registrars, nurses, physiotherapists, and others training in ultrasound.
2. Ensure ultrasound education aligns with service organization, clinical practice frameworks, management procedures, and national guidelines.
3. Provide analysis of ultrasound service provision to support a high-quality, timely, and comprehensive service responsive to user needs.
4. Ensure staff compliance with safe working practices, including infection control and protective device use.
5. Perform autonomous clinical reporting and interpretation of ultrasound images within your scope, providing diagnoses and recommendations for referrals or follow-up.
6. This position is based at Withybush General Hospital but requires travel across all sites within the Health Board for training delivery.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Knowledge
* Postgraduate qualification in Ultrasound (Masters level) including general, gynecological, and obstetric ultrasound from a CASE-accredited institution.
* Ability to perform and report on abdominal, gynecological, and testicular scans independently, recognizing when to seek second opinions.
* Professional registration with the Health Professions Council or equivalent.
* Teaching qualifications and relevant training certificates (First Aid, Health & Safety, IT skills, etc.).
Experience
* Experience working in a hospital imaging department with familiarity in medical imaging practices and terminology.
* Experience working directly with patients independently.
* Proven knowledge of ultrasound techniques, including Doppler, and cross-sectional anatomy.
* Recent NHS hospital experience.
* Specialized ultrasound skills (e.g., neonatal, musculoskeletal, vascular, FNAs).
* Experience in training, supervising, or managing trainees in a clinical setting.

Salary: £46,840 to £53,602 per annum (pro-rata if part-time).
