About the role
The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Research Support Service (RSS) delivered by Imperial College London (ICL), University College London (UCL), Queen Mary University London (QMUL) and King’s College London (KCL) (NIHR RSS ICL and Partners) provides researchers with access to support, advice and expertise in the development and delivery of clinical and applied health and care research.
The Patient and Public Involvement Engagement (PPIE) Lead oversees the delivery of the NIHR RSS Hub’s People and Communities strategy, contributing to national collaboration and reporting aligned with NIHR’s public partnership commitments. These strategic leadership responsibilities are combined with direct advisory support to innovators, clinicians, health and social care professionals, and academics on embedding meaningful public involvement in research design, funding applications, and project implementation.

About you
7. The post holder will hold a PhD or have equivalent research experience, with a strong track record in patient and public involvement (PPIE), community engagement, and applied health or social care research.
8. They will have proven expertise in developing and implementing PPIE strategies, supporting researchers to embed public involvement, and navigating the NIHR funding landscape and PPIE requirements across different funding streams.
9. They will bring strategic leadership experience, a deep understanding of inclusive research practices, and a commitment to advancing equitable public partnerships in health and social care research.
