Job Summary
The Quality Governance and patient Safety Support is a member of the Quality Governance Team and works collaboratively across disciplines. The post holder will lead on aspects of quality governance including serious incident investigations, as delegated by the Head of Quality Governance & IG, to facilitate learning and improvements in clinical practice and safety to reduce risk.
The role incorporates the promotion of a positive learning and just culture environment, where changes are established and embedded to improve patient safety, experience and outcomes. An open learning culture will be fostered to ensure lessons are taken and appropriate action is implemented in response to mistakes, service failures, excellent practice and for dissemination.
The post holder will be supportive and innovate in their support to the Quality Governance & IG & Quality Governance Advisor to ensure that all areas of quality governance – including clinical incidents, complaints, serious clinical incidents – are addressed and acted upon.
Main Duties of the Job
* Oversee the Governance function including delegation of duties to the Governance Support Officer.
* Own the process to ensure proper review and ratification of Policies and Operational Documents prior to their expiry dates.
* Support the Quality Governance Advisor to complete the clinical audit process.
* Own the generic Quality Governance inbox with delegation to the team.
* Act promptly on all correspondence.
* Ensure alignment to NEMS SOPs and KPIs when responding to complaints, incidents and health‑care professional feedback.
* Produce data reports as instructed by the Head of Quality Governance & IG and the Quality Governance Advisor.
* Innovatively think to ensure we are performing to a consistently high standard.
* Ensure the Governance database is up to date and captures relevant learning/action taken.

Job Responsibilities
* Delegate duties to the Governance Support Officer.

* Provide advice and support to the NEMS workforce on all issues relating to quality governance and patient safety.
* Plan and undertake investigations into clinical incidents of varying nature and complexity within agreed timeframes and protocols.
* Maintain confidentiality and discretion in carrying out all duties.
* Use own initiative, sound judgment and experience to support appropriate decisions in line with NEMS values.
* Implement the NEMS policy for Reporting and Management of incidents aligned to the NEMS Patient Safety Incident Framework, including Duty of Candour.
* Follow procedures throughout NEMS to achieve and maintain incident‑management standards.
* Support the Quality Governance Advisor to disseminate lessons learned and remedial actions promptly.
* Assist in delivering specific projects.
* Maintain a high standard of record for each investigation and produce appropriate and timely reports.
* Utilise Human Factors and Ergonomics tools and techniques to support investigators.
* Ensure communication with patients, relatives and carers is open, honest, transparent and independent.
* Support the Quality Governance Advisor when required to ensure NEMS captures all safety alerts.

Essential
* Previous experience working within a healthcare setting.
* Knowledge of Quality Governance.
* Previous experience leading projects.
* Ability to deputise.
* Experience in complaints or incidents.
* Understanding of local and national policies in relation to governance.
* Experience of report writing.
* Experience of engaging with patients.
* Knowledge of PSIRF.
Desirable
* Operating in NHS or social‑care commissioned services.

* Degree Level Education.
