Opportunity
We have an opportunity for a General Practitioner to join our Pharmacy team at HMP Garth, a category B men’s prison, located in the village of Ulnes Walton, in Lancashire. The site houses around 800 patients aged 21+ with a range of needs including long‑term conditions, mental health, substance misuse and acute needs.
Hours: 3 sessions per week – Monday 8 am–12 pm, Wednesday 8 am–12 pm, Friday 8 am–12 pm.
As a member of the Multi‑Disciplinary Team, you will:
Responsibilities
* Provide clinical assessment and diagnosis and make timely decisions regarding future management.
* Prescribe for patients, regularly review medications and monitor repeat prescriptions.
* Act as a specialist resource to other members of the healthcare team and patients, actively participating in clinical governance and effectiveness activities, including diagnosis, investigation, treatment and referral in line with guidelines and pathways.
We recognise training and development as key, so we provide a training portal and an in‑depth induction for all staff, whether or not you have experience working in prisons. You will gain insight into Mental Health and Substance Misuse, and have the opportunity to work towards your RCGP Level 2.

Qualifications
* MBChB or MBBS.
* Inclusion on the GMC Register and GP Performers List.
* Evidence of engagement with annual appraisal.
* Experience working as a General Practitioner in community general practice.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* Ability to work with patients with a history of substance misuse.
* RCGP Certificate in Substance Misuse 1 and 2, or prepared to undertake these qualifications.

This position is part‑time, working 12 hours per week. You will receive an annual salary between £103,600 and £124,320 per annum FTE, depending on experience.
