Description
As the custodians of 17 million biological samples, data is at the heart of everything we do in the laboratory at UK Biobank.
Our mission is to support scientific discoveries that improve human health.
To do this, we focus on maintaining high quality laboratory data to ensure the integrity, traceability, and accessibility of samples for researchers around the world to drive life-changing insights from measurements made on UK Biobank samples.
This role is key to that ambition. If successful, you will join a dedicated team at the cutting edge of laboratory operations and play a pivotal role in enabling decisions that shape the future of biobanking.
Can you do it?
Reporting to the Director of Laboratory, you will work alongside technical, operational, and quality teams to make complex laboratory data accessible, understandable, and actionable. You will develop and curate reports that bring together multiple data sources, helping to ensure the smooth running of the laboratory.
You will be responsible for
* Supporting data validation, standardisation, and ongoing monitoring of laboratory datasets
* Designing and curating reports that bring together data from across the laboratory (such as traceability, location, training, and asset data)
* Developing data visualisations that support informed decision-making within the laboratory
* Collaborating across teams to ensure full traceability of samples and actions, in line with ISO20387

Is this you?
To be successful, you will have:
* A degree in a scientific or numerate subject, or equivalent experience
* Minimum of two years’ experience working with data reporting and visualization tools, such as Power BI
* Proficiency in relational databases and writing SQL queries
* Experience working with and combining large datasets (over a million records)
* A keen eye for detail, and the ability to translate complex data into clear insights
The working pattern is Monday to Friday, with hybrid working arrangements based in Greater Manchester (initially Stockport, moving to Manchester Science Park in 2026).
