Overview

The School of Engineering, Mathematics and Physics is seeking to appoint a Reader in Sustainable Engineering to help deliver an outstanding standard of education and contribute to internationally excellent research and innovation. The School offers programmes across Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Electronic and Computer Engineering disciplines. Teaching is research-led with practical laboratory-based work. The School has a Silver Athena SWAN award and a diverse, inclusive culture. We support colleagues through family-friendly policies, including flexible working options and support for staff returning from periods of extended absence.

The role will contribute to research and knowledge exchange in Engineering, with expertise in sustainable energies and/or energy technologies and management. The appointee will lead the development of the research strategy in this area and contribute to teaching and developing our new taught MSc programme in Sustainable Engineering. The role holder will also support administrative and school-wide activities in collaboration with School and University aims.

The position is offered on an Education and Research contract for candidates with an internationally leading research record and trajectory, evidenced by a portfolio of excellent outputs and success in attracting and leading externally funded research/innovation projects.


As a Reader in Engineering you can expect to be involved in:

* Leading and contributing to the delivery and design of high quality, demand-driven, student-centred teaching.
* Assessing students’ work, monitoring progress, providing feedback and guidance.
* Undertaking and leading internationally competitive research, including supervision of research staff and students.
* Disseminating research findings, including writing internationally excellent papers in high-quality publications and presenting at conferences.


What will you bring to the role?

* PhD in Engineering in an area relevant to Energy Technologies or Renewable Energies, or equivalent experience/qualification.
* Record of internationally excellent research with a recognized research profile and professional esteem in the discipline.
* Portfolio of research publications and/or other outputs in energy technologies and/or renewable energies demonstrating excellence.
* Evidence of obtaining significant external research and innovation funding.
* Experience in the development and delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and assessment in Engineering in a higher education setting.
