Role

This is a great opportunity to join our team as a Field Interviewer working for the ONS via AMS. As a Field Interviewer carrying out official surveys, you will help to inform Government about the state of the nation. The role will start with 5 weeks of comprehensive training. The Field Interviewer role involves visiting sampled addresses to encourage survey participation and interviewing respondents in their homes.

This role is not office based. You are required to work within a 40-mile radius (approx.) of an allocated location. Your work will be allocated to ensure you can travel and complete your work within your contracted hours in this area. Consider how you will be able to achieve this based on your home location in relation to your chosen location preference.

This role offers flexible working hours broadly equivalent to 22 hours per week. To reach respondents, interviews will need to be conducted between 09:00 – 20:00, with potential for admin and travel time outside of these hours. Interviews will be across mornings, afternoons, and evenings and are contracted to work Monday to Saturday.


Responsibilities

* Plan, organise and manage your own workload with support and training provided.
* Visit sampled addresses to encourage survey participation and interview respondents in their homes.


What we are looking for

We are looking for individuals who have a friendly, outgoing personality and the confidence to approach and converse with a wide range of people. You will need excellent communication skills to be the face of ONS and, where needed, to persuade reluctant members of the public to take part in surveys and interviews. You will also be responsible for planning and managing your own workload. Training and support will be provided.


Requirements of the role

* Be able to transport and carry equipment such as a laptop and survey materials; on occasion walk between addresses and navigate stairs in the field.
* Live within a 10 mile radius of the location and have the ability to travel to addresses within a 40 mile radius from the advertised location.
* Interviews will be conducted between 09:00 – 20:00. Hours split across mornings, afternoons, and evenings, with flexibility to work on Saturdays if required.
* Experience of using a laptop and a smartphone.
* Self-disciplined, self-motivated and happy to work without supervision.
* Excellent verbal communication skills and enjoy meeting and talking to people.


Essential Requirements

* Candidates will be subject to UK immigration requirements as well as Civil Service eligibility rules.
* Full valid UK Driving License (including rights of EU Nationals) and full use of a car for work purposes.
* Proof of Identity.
* Have broadband internet connection at your home address prior to taking up employment.


Competencies

Competencies assessed during the selection process include: Communication and Influencing, Problem Solving and Prioritisation, and Resilience. There will be a question regarding the ability to use technology.


Selection process

Selection will be based on your work history, skills and experience, and personal statement. Successful applicants will be invited to a video interview lasting 30 to 45 minutes. At the interview, you will provide evidence to support your application and should familiarise yourself with the required competencies and prepare questions to ask.


Security

Successful candidates must undergo Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks and a criminal record check.
