Join as a Senior Highways Engineer in our Transportation team. We work on projects of all sizes, scopes and scales, from the large A428 ("Black Cat Roundabout") Project to Active Travel Schemes. Our projects are bringing digitalisation to highways and transforming the way people live and work. You’ll be part of collaborative design teams based across the country and the world. There’s an exciting era for UK highways with intelligent networks, autonomous technology and mobility as a service. To lead in emerging areas that interest you, speak up and take the initiative.
We are looking for an experienced Senior Highway Engineer to join our practice in Cambridge, Epsom or Chelmsford (remote work up to 2 days per week).
Responsibilities
* Prepare designs and specifications in accordance with Design Manual Roads Bridges (DMRB).
* Develop designs using AutoCAD, Civil3D models (as applicable).
* Deliver work packages with scope to move up to managing schemes and multi-disciplinary teams.
* Provide support to Project Managers within the design team in planning, programming, technical input to pricing of project briefs, proposals, deliverables and cost estimation.
* Be accountable for checking, certifying, and authorising for issue: designs, documents, approvals, and reports.
* Manage graduate engineers and technicians to deliver work packages, coordinating engineering resources.
* Work collaboratively with clients and key stakeholders to deliver schemes/projects.
* Mentor and upskill junior staff to help them develop professionally and progress towards professional qualifications.
* Prepare feasibility studies, technical reports, detailed designs and contract documents across a variety of projects.
* Provide an integrated service to clients, working with other disciplines as a team.
* Seek innovative solutions to achieve best value in delivering services.
* Provide technical leadership and support where required.
What You Can Bring
* BEng or MEng in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) and preferably Incorporated or Chartered Engineer.
* Significant experience in highway design following the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges and other standards.
* Understanding of the commercial aspects of project delivery.
* Knowledge of relevant legislation, standards and procedures including departures from standard.
* NEC and/or Project Management experience (advantageous).

This role may require security clearance and offers are dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If necessary, this will be discussed at interview.
