Machine Operator Woodworking Salary: £27,000 to £32,000 per annum (higher for experienced wood machinists) Hours: Monday to Friday 7am to 3pm, plus optional overtime on Saturday mornings Location: Barking, IG11 Job Type: Full-time, Permanent An established manufacturing business is recruiting for a Machine Operator to join its busy production team. This role is ideal for candidates with experience in engineering, manufacturing, machine operating, or similar hands on environments. Timber machining experience is beneficial, but not essential. Full training will be provided. The key requirement is an excellent eye for detail, strong measurement skills, and confidence working with industrial machinery. Candidates with full wood machining experience will be offered a higher starting salary in line with their skills and capability. Key Responsibilities • Reading and interpreting technical drawings and job specifications • Accurately measuring, marking, and preparing materials • Selecting the correct type and quantity of timber for each job • Setting up and operating woodworking machinery, including band saws, circular saws, cross-cut saws, and spindle molders • Carrying out quality checks to ensure components meet precise standards • Performing routine maintenance on machines, including cleaning, lubrication, and blade changes • Following all health and safety procedures and using PPE correctly • Completing production paperwork such as job sheets and inspection records Required Skills and Experience • Experience as a machine operator in wood, engineering, manufacturing, metal, plastics, or similar environments • Strong attention to detail with accurate measurement skills • Ability to interpret technical drawings or willingness to learn • Comfortable with physical tasks and manual handling • Confident operating or learning to operate production machinery • Able to work independently and as part of a team What’s On Offer • Competitive salary of £27,000 to £32,000, with higher salaries available for experienced wood machinists • Full training provided for candidates without timber experience • Stable working hours 7am–3pm, Monday to Friday • Optional Saturday morning overtime • Long-term career opportunity with scope to develop specialist skills •Benefits are - • 20 days holiday plus bank holiday • Christmas shut down • Life Insurance • 4% Employers Pension Contribution • Free parking If you have machine operating experience and want a secure, well supported role where you can learn new skills, we would love to hear from you.
