About The Role
To plan, implement and supervise the provision of quality care, in conjunction with People in our Care. To ensure People retain their dignity and individuality. To be involved in the general activities of the Care Home / Unit. To maintain a safe and secure environment for People, Staff Members and Visitors.
Skills, Knowledge and Qualifications
Required:
* Genuine interest in, and experience of working with, the relevant Care environment
* Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
* Team player
* Willingness to participate in Vocational Training Programmes
* Satisfactory Police Check and check against the POVA List (where applicable)
Desired:
* N/SVQ Level 3 in Care
* Previous supervisory experience
* Experience / Qualification in the Safe Handling of Medicines
Main Responsibilities
* Ensure the highest possible levels of care are maintained by supporting/assisting People, when required, with all aspects of daily living.
* Support training and supervision of junior and new staff in all aspects of their work in the Care Home, under the supervision of senior staff.
* Assist People in all aspects of their care needs (physical, emotional and spiritual). Provide supervision and attention when needed, ensuring People retain their comfort and dignity.
* Assist People with limited mobility or physical/learning difficulties, making the best use of aids provided.
* Closely monitor People who may be confused and/or who have behavioural problems.
* Assist in the promotion of continence.
* Assist in the delivery of care for People who are dying or have a progressive illness.
* Assist with last offices.
* Maintain accurate records and ensure each person has an individualized Care Plan. Care plans should be reviewed at a minimum monthly basis with full review involving all external bodies twice per year or more frequently if required.
* Ensure all Care provided is documented at the end of each shift for each person in our care.
* Ensure all charts (turns, dietary intake, etc) are completed for each person as required.
* Assist in the framework of social activities by interacting with People and helping them continue with hobbies and activities in the Care Home.
* Answer Nursecall system, give assistance as required. Answer the door and telephone appropriately, pass on messages promptly.
* Report on the well-being of People and liaise with GPs and Support Managers.
* Carry out regular checks on People at intervals determined by senior staff members.
* Make Visitors feel welcome. Provide refreshments/assistance as required.
* Make and change beds, ensure rooms are clean and tidy, and commodes are empty, in line with the Care Home’s waste policy. Ensure resources are used appropriately.
* Clean and maintain equipment used by People/Relatives (e.g., wheelchairs, hearing aids, spectacles). Keep the Care Home clean and tidy in line with the Company’s standards.
* Care for People’s clothing and rooms as named, ensure clothing is recorded and clearly marked where applicable.
* Ensure full privacy and dignity is maintained for the dying and the bereaved, in line with Company policies and procedures.
* Assist People during meal times (consider swallowing difficulties, dietary requirements). Serve food/drinks as required; set and clear tables and trays; wash up as required.
* Escort People travelling to and from the Care Home for outings or hospital visits.
* Practice maximum integrity in all dealings with People’s personal and financial affairs, and avoid abuse of the privileged relationship.
* Assist with rearrangement of people’s bedrooms with safe moving and handling techniques.
* Dispense medication, and ensure correct recording of all relevant information relating to medication (after satisfactory completion of the Safe Handling of Medicines course).
* Ensure holistic assessments are carried out when People are admitted (e.g., nutrition, continence, risk assessment).
Communication
* Participate in Staff and Client meetings as required.
* Liaise with the Multidisciplinary Team to ensure people receive the medical care they require.
* Maintain effective communication between the home and external departments.
Training and Development
* Maintain professional knowledge and competence.
* Attend mandatory training days/courses, on or off site, as required.
* Participate in relevant NVQ training to achieve required qualifications.
Health and Safety
* Report illness or accidents involving a person in our care, colleagues, self or others to the Home Manager or Person in Charge.
* Understand and implement the Care Home’s Health and Safety policy, and Emergency and Fire procedures.
* Report faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or hazards to the Home Manager or Handyperson.
* Promote safe working practices and maintain confidentiality of information.
* Notify the Home Manager of any absence as soon as possible and on return to work.
* Ensure the security of the Care Home is maintained at all times.
* Adhere to Company policies and procedures within defined timescales and ensure equipment is clean and well maintained.
* Carry out any other tasks reasonably assigned to you.
