Part Time School Maintenance Technician
Location: Bucknall, Stoke on Trent
Contract Type: Part Time, Full Year
Hours: hours per week, Monday to Friday 1pm – 6pm.

We are currently seeking an experienced Maintenance Operative to support the upkeep and safety of our school premises. This is a vital role that ensures our buildings and grounds remain safe, functional, and welcoming for students, staff, and visitors.
About the Role
As our Maintenance Operative, you’ll be responsible for a wide range of duties including general repairs, planned maintenance, and ensuring compliance with Health & Safety regulations. You’ll play a key role in maintaining the high standards of our school environment and supporting the day-to-day operations of the site.
Key Responsibilities
1. Carry out proactive and reactive maintenance and repairs to a high standard.
2. Conduct regular inspections across the school and associated buildings.
3. Maintain service records for plant and equipment.
4. Ensure safe storage and management of tools and equipment.
5. Operate and maintain heating and hot water systems.
6. Perform Health & Safety checks (. water, fire alarms, emergency lighting, asbestos).
7. Manage contractors on site and monitor work carried out.
8. Support emergency call-outs and be a key holder for the site.
9. Carry out fire drills and emergency evacuations.
10. Assist with moving furniture and equipment as needed.
11. Maintain external areas and liaise with external service providers.
Skills and Qualifications
Skills & Experience
12. Previous experience in a maintenance role; experience in an educational setting is desirable.
13. Strong knowledge of general maintenance, including basic plumbing and joinery.
14. Understanding of Health & Safety regulations and compliance.
15. Familiarity with hot and cold water systems.
16. Ability to work independently, use initiative, and manage lone working situations.
17. Full UK driving licence required.
