Payroll Delivery Manager - Manchester/Newcastle/Glasgow
Job description overview: EY is seeking a driven and ambitious Payroll Delivery Manager to deliver high quality and timely payroll services to a portfolio of clients of varying size and complexity. This role is part of our fast-growing UK Payroll Operate team, with payroll as a strategic growth driver and senior leadership interest and support.
Responsibilities
* Ultimate responsibility for the end-to-end payroll process for a portfolio of clients, ensuring payrolls are processed and submitted each pay period in a timely and accurate manner
* Undertake in-depth reviews of the work carried out by the payroll team prior to client delivery
* Advise on technical payroll matters such as termination payments, payrolling of benefits, statutory payments
* Handle client and team queries related to payroll operations and ensure escalation procedures are in place
* Manage team workloads and allocations
* Counsel staff, including annual and in-year reviews
* Prepare client fee and budget details and ensure the team complies with internal finance procedures
* Approve BACS files for the payment of employees
* Auto-enrolment compliance
* Coordinate payroll offerings with the global team
* Set up and attend client meetings as required
* Develop additional services for payroll clients
* Work with implementation teams to ensure smooth transition of new payroll clients
* Provide HMRC audit assistance
* Identify, manage, resolve, and mitigate key risks and issues impacting the client delivery and act as a point of escalation
* Understand and comply with Quality and Risk requirements for professional service firms
* Work with internal teams to establish effective procedures for setup of internal and external systems, tools, and processes as part of client transitions

To qualify for the role, you must have
* 8+ years of relevant hands-on experience in Payroll
* End-to-end payroll knowledge and experience in a high-volume payroll environment (bureau experience beneficial)
* Up-to-date expertise in payroll compliance, rules, and legislation in a multi-country environment
* Experience with statutory payments/deductions and pension contributions
* Understanding of upstream and downstream payroll processes
* Good understanding of payroll compliance including AE, RTI, Apprenticeship Levy
* Good IT skills including proficiency with Excel
* High accuracy and attention to detail
* Good workload management and ability to meet deadlines
* Experience of managing a team
* Payroll qualifications (e.g., CIPP) preferred
