Job Overview
The Vetting and Validation Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Endoscopy service is responsible for the daily triage and assessment of referrals, ensuring investigations are vetted and validated within the required timescales. The role requires expert clinical knowledge, teaching, and training of nursing colleagues, while delivering specialized patient care in line with best practice and up‑to‑date guidelines. The specialist will support advanced endoscopic procedures, contribute to service improvements, and collaborate with the team to address operational and educational needs.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop UHD endoscopy nurse‑led vetting clinics for endoscopy referrals in line with JAG, national and regional guidelines, including fast track OGDs / GA.
* Be involved in the development of new nurse‑led services (e.g., Barrett’s oesophagus clinics).
* Conduct daily triage assessments of patient referrals.
* Provide regular health education and promotion to patients.
* Support endoscopy nursing staff with training and operational issues around advanced endoscopic procedures such as RFA, FTRD, ESD, complex colons, and upper GI therapeutics.
* Liaise with appropriate clinicians, specialist nurses and MDTs.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* ONMC registration.
* Physical Examination of the Adult qualification, or willing to undertake.
* Post‑registration course related to speciality.
* Academic Level 3 / Level H study.
* Non‑Medical Prescriber or willing to undertake.
Experience
* Demonstrable endoscopy experience/knowledge.
* Experience and evidence of service improvement projects.
* Audit activities.
* Ability to work at an autonomous level.
* Experience of advanced endoscopic procedures.
* Knowledge of endoscopic IT management systems.
Skills
* Effective communication skills relevant to a clinical practice role.
* Clinical competencies relevant to practice role.
* IT literacy using a range of current and relevant packages.
* Retrieve relevant investigation results.
* Teaching and presentation skills.
* Information Literacy Skills (ILS).
* Knowledge and experience using advanced endoscopic equipment.
* Venepuncture and cannulation.
Knowledge
* Demonstrate fundamental nursing knowledge.
* Knowledge of standard and advanced endoscopic procedures.
* Interpretation of requested investigations.
