Job Description MUST be a strong dog handler with experience in animal rescue preferred. We are looking for a strong people manager to join our kennel-free rescue. Must be comfortable with packs of dogs. We are looking to expand our team so have created a new role. This is going to encompass looking after our team of dog-handlers to ensure that the whole operation works as efficiently and effectively as possible, and gives the dogs their very best lives, ensuring the welfare of the dogs is at the forefront of all decisions. This is primarily a people managing role, with some dog handling, but you will need to be comfortable around all dogs, and have experience working in kennels or daycare centres. As the role is new it can be adapted to the strengths of the successful applicant, and will evolve over time. It is primarily a practical role, being out with the team and supervising / supporting them in their daily duties, but will also involve the inevitable paperwork that goes with management. So you will be involved with logging what’s just happened, planning for what’s going to happen, and ensuring that all other stuff that needs to happen, happens! We are in a period of operational growing pains with more expansion on the horizon. We have some amazing people in the business but it is a complex, ever changing dynamic with the dogs. With the right person in this role our Irlam site could move to a whole different level of brilliance, our team would feel more supported, and we could make every 5 minutes matter for the dogs. We need someone to help us become a centre of excellence at our Irlam site. You will draw on our founders vision, expertise and ideas, as well as consulting with our Centre Manager, Area Operations Manager who oversees all 3 sites, and of course the dog handlers who understand the day-to-day ‘as is’ and can offer insights into what might work. You will have reviewed processes and delivered improvements whilst living and breathing cultural values to embed them at all levels – naturally bringing the dog handling team along as we improve processes and efficiencies. There is no room for egos at our rescue – we are all about what is best for the dogs. We need an objective, focused individual that will not let the emotional rollercoaster of rescue life affect the day-to-day. You will lift the team, bring energy and purpose. We need someone with resilience and the ability to be strong, driven people manager with experience in rescue. Someone who can challenge in a positive way to ensure we always stay at the top of our chosen industry. Salary 33k to 38k depending on experience. Must drive and have own transport. May include some weekend work.
